Two big upsets last night occurred in Section 1 - Class A and Section 1 Class AA. #1 Seed Grand Meadow, who was also "predicted" as the team to make it in Class A Section 1, was knocked off last night by #4 Seed Filmore Central by one point, 57-56! Grand Meadow's record going into the game was 22-4 and #20QRF while Filmore was 15-12 and #23QRF. Grand Meadow's Jessica Benson had 41 points in the loss and made a last chance shot that went in but after the buzzer went off....what a heartbreaker for that young lady and her team.
In another upset in Section 1 - Class AA, #1 Seed Rochester Lourdes was knocked off by Stewartville. R Lourdes' record was 21-4 and #7QRF going in while Stewartville's record was 18-8 and #23QRF before this game.
These are two perfect examples of how #1 seeds can easily get bumped out and end their season alot earlier than expected. I told Shelby this morning about Grand Meadow and how quickly a season could end...they need to know they have to play hard EVERY single game and not let down or give ANYONE a chance to get close enough to take it from them....
Oddly enough, Grand Meadow was the predicted team to represent Section 1 in the Class A State Tournament, and their first game would have been against the team that represents SECTION 7 in the Class A State Tournament. Hmmmm.....
