The Greenway Sauna

You never would have known it was winter at the Greenway gymnasium as it was sweltering in that gym! It felt like it was at least 90 degrees and it was miserable for the fans so I can just imagine how difficult it was to play ball in that heat. I felt bad for the girls and their very red cheeks..... (look how red everyone's cheeks are in the pictures before the game even started)

The girls did win convincingly by a score of 65-21 with the score at the halftime being 48-14. But I do believe the heat affected them during the second half as they seemed to lose their legs and couldn't hit anything, or so it seemed as they scored 48 in the first half and only 17 in the second. Greenway had 14 in the first half and 7 in the last half.

I was thinking to myself that this was the hottest gym we had ever been in but then remembered one very hot July at the North Tartan Meltdown (really) in Bloomington, MN. There was no air conditioning and it was 100 degrees outside....the fans were soaked and I remember we had to get ice in bags for the girls to put on their necks and heads when they had a time out. A few players had heat strokes and one even had to be taken out in an ambulance, so I guess last night wasn't the hottest! Anyway, for all of you that weren't there, it was MISERABLY hot!

Shelby had 21, Adrianna 16 with two three's, Lise 12, Megan 8, Theresa 6, Carolyn 2, Kate 2 and Page 1.

Shelby had a few people come to see her play there that live in Grand Rapids, her brother and Ryan Geihler (was the top boy scorer and record 3 holder until Mason Jones-Powell broke both his senior year in 2007), Carole, Shawn and Cain and her future coach from ICC. Other girls had quite a few people that must have been family that lived in Rapids also, because there were many new faces.

My favorite picture is of the four Greenway girls waiting to come into the game...don't know why, but it is! I didn't get many as the lighting wasn't very cooperative in that gym.
