Time for a New Poem
The well was dry for a couple of weeks and since I had this one partially started before the first game got cancelled, I thought I would pick up where I left off....so here is the newest poem in honor of our rivals down the road.
And So It Begins....
Well it’s that time of year for the rivalry to begin,
Just hope Old Man Winter doesn’t cancel us again.
The Lady Warriors are 10 and 2 at mid-season,
While the Lady Huskies are sitting pretty at 15 and 1.
The records never matter as they battle on the court,
Both teams are determined to play hard from the start.
This little rivalry has grown over the last few years,
From many young tournaments, and many shed tears.
Lots of noise and excitement will fill the air,
And I hope that very few bleachers will be bare!
Both wear Blue & Gold and wear them proud,
They’ll for sure put on a show for a very large crowd!
They have Peterson twins which are pretty feisty,
But they will have to deal with our speedy Lisee.
Those Lady Warriors are fast and will try to pass a no looker,
But our Lady Huskies will turn on that famous pressure cooker!
Their little point guard can shoot a pretty rainbow,
But she’ll have to get out of our trap to let even one go.
So the Lady Huskies decided to have a little "board" meeting,
And laid out the plans to do some fierce double teaming.
It’s expected that Coach Marleau will get mighty upset,
And some of us might just put money on that bet!
This is this first of two rounds with the Warriors,
And both games are just as important as any of the others.
I can see determination on all of our ladies’ faces,
As they take team by team, and put them in their places.
There is such a strong desire and the will to win it all,
So those Lady Warriors had better be on the ball.
I’m sure there will be a few tiffs on the floor,
But whoever plays the hardest will have the best score.
We have won the Conference two years in a row,
And have no plans of letting that precious trophy go!
So come out and watch these two teams battle again,
You don’t want to miss it, so go change those plans!

Huskies 67, Eagles 32
The girls defeated the Northland Lady Eagles for the second time this year with the score at the half being 35-14 and the final score 67-32. The girls came out fast and put points on the board just as fast, with an early lead of 23-1. They never looked back...the picture of Lise with her pony tail flying and the face of determination is one of my favorites. She has been playing this "determined" all season and it's fun to get a picture that shows what I'm talking about. Shelby started the game off hitting two three's in a row but got alot of help from her teammates with good passing so she could get the fast break points. Where one or two girls end up in double figures the others end up in double figures in assists, rebounds and steals. They are a well balanced team that is for sure!
If anyone hasn't yet come out to watch them play, please do as the regular season is on the back end of the schedule with 8 regular games left before tournaments begin. Please come out and fill the stands and cheer for these hard-working athletes. They are now 15-1 and are set to play bigtime rival Deer River on Monday, 2/2/09, in a makeup game. We need lots of loud cheering fans for this one!
Here is a link to the article in the Mesabi Daily News. It is after the game summary on MIB who beat Ely tonight.

Ladies to Dance Again With Lady Eagles
The Lady Huskies will once again do battle in a Northern Lakes Conference game with the Lady Eagles of Northland Remer. The girls won the first round on the Eagles' home court by 14 points, 69-55. They were missing one starter who was out sick so it just might turn into a good game. They have some good talent and shooters so I hope everyone comes out to support the girls.
We usually do better against them in our home gym as Remer is one place the girls seem to struggle. Last year we lost to them at Remer (without Lise though) by 7 and then when they came to Bigfork we beat them by 27 points. But it is an important conference game that the girls need to win.
They actually have six conference games in a row after tonight's game and of course they are all important if they want to be Conference Champs three years in a row. Work hard ladies and never give up!

MN Coaches Association All Star Game
Shelby was told yesterday by Coach Powell that he was notified by the Section Rep that she was selected as the 2nd Alternate for the Minnesota Coaches Association All Star game that is held in St. Cloud in April. They pick 10 girls and 2 alternates from the entire State of Minnesota to play on the Class A team. So there are 40 girls chosen to play on four teams, Class A, AA, AAA and AAAA.
It is a big honor and I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that maybe a couple of those girls will be going on vacation somewhere in April! If not, that's fine and it's just nice to see an athlete from the small town of Bigfork being recognized for a change!
Bigfork gets snubbed by the Duluth News Tribune and quite a bit by the Hibbing and Mesabi newspapers. The Grand Rapids Herald Review is the only newspaper that really puts an effort into covering our local teams! (Thanks Jason!) I just wish they would do what Duluth, Hibbing and Mesabi do at the end of each season for every sport: an All Area Team and Player of the Year. Softball, Baseball, Hockey, Soccer, Swimming, Wrestling, Track, Football, Basketball and on and on...there are plenty of area schools that are left out: Deer River, Hill City, Nashwauk-Keewatin, Greenway, Northland-Remer and Bigfork, just to mention a few. (Hint, Hint Jason) The reason I don't include Grand Rapids (which the Herald Review would have to) is because they are included in the Hibbing Daily News and the Duluth News Tribune All Area teams. Do you get it because I don't. Mesabi does include Bigfork in their All Area teams but it's pretty hard to get on that list as they mostly cover the range area teams. We are very lucky if we get an athlete in there....
Shelby also was awarded the Hardware Hanks Nuts and Bolts Athlete of the Week as the outstate athlete the week of January 6th. She was nominated by someone after her game against Ely in the Hibbing tournament and was chosen as the outstate athlete. They pick an outstate and metro athlete each week. Anyone can nominate the athletes and you can go to the Minnesota Sports Online and look for the link if you would like to nominate an athlete.
Congrats Baby Girl!

Spot on Lakeland News Bemidji
Lakeland News out of Bemidji came to the high school last week and taped the girls practicing and interviewed Greg, Megan Powell and Shelby Goble. They had the piece on their sports section last night, Monday, January 26, 2009.
Here is the link to the site: http://www.lakelandptv.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=35&Itemid=97&show=3&newscast=597
Once you get to their site, look down at the bottom for Most Recent Broadcasts and click on Monday, January 26, 2009 and a black screen will come up...press the arrow and watch! You might have to watch the whole broadcast but it will come up after the weather at about 21:52 minutes into that night's program. It is a nice piece on the team if any family members are far away and would like to watch it and see a little bit of the girls.

Taking Care of the Knights, 71-54
I only got home about an hour ago and thought I would at least post the score from tonight's game....I told you it was a loooooong drive! It's 15 below here in Dora Lake and when we left Babbitt it was 20 below.
We had refs again that called ticky-tack fouls and Lise picked up two right away and sat the bench pretty much the whole first half. She has a terrible earache that she just started taking drops for today, so she probably shouldn't even been playing as she was in really bad pain. And of course that can throw of your equilibrium (sp?). She was a trooper though and played through the pain.
Megan had a great game tonight and ended up with 19, Adrianna 14, Shelby 12, Theresa 10, Lise 8 and Carolyn 6. A very balanced night on offense but too many turnovers for my liking. Those Babbitt girls like to shoot the three and would shoot 2-4 feet from behind the 3 point line! It was crazy! The coach told the girls that before the game and boy, he wasn't kidding! My husband always says "you can live or die by the 3 point line" and it was certainly true with the Lady Knights. They all have beautiful, high arcing shots though. They are another team that has much improved from past years.
Of course I had to check the scores tonight when I got home and was shocked to see that MIB lost to Two Harbors, 44-39. Two Harbors record is 5-11 right now, or well 6-11 I guess. That is really going to hurt MIB's ranking and might pull them out of the Top Ten. The paper said they held Charlotte Overbye to 13 points and that she fouled out. Her sister McKenzie only had 1 point and the others all had 4 or less. That is a total surprise. When I saw the score I had to wipe my tired eyes and thought at first that their top shooter might have gotten hurt.

Quote of the Day
I love quotes so I thought I would start posting a quote each day...I printed a ton of them and laminated them and put them all over the girls' locker room before the season started...we also decorated the bulletin board, which reminds me that I need to put some more "stuff" up there soon! They love to see themselves in pictures so I should get on that....

Rochester, NY & Lincoln Park, MI
I check to see who clicks onto this site several times a day just because I'm curious....and these two pop up every day! I'm just wondering if you are family of one of the girls or maybe a Bigfork alumni? Can you email me or post a comment? Just being nosy is all! I think we have Rochester, NY figured out but not Lincoln Park, Michigan....
Good luck tonight girls in Babbitt!

Baffled
I usually check the scores at night on WDIO or Minnesota Scores to see how the other teams in the Section are doing....well, tonight I see that Ely beat Cook County 52-47! I guess I'm a little shocked because Cook County defeated MIB last week and then defeated Floodwood last night by 4 points. Cook Co. and Floodwood are the top two teams in the other half of Section 7.
So what does this mean? Did Cook County just have an off night against Ely? Did MIB have an off night against Cook County? We do not play Cook County or Floodwood until tournament time so all we can do is watch how their seasons play out but Cook County defeating MIB was a surprise and now Ely beating Cook County is a really BIG surprise! Bigfork beat Ely by 34 points in the Hibbing tournament and that was with the starters only playing the first part of the second half!
MIB beat Orr last Thursday by the same margin as we did tonight, 41 points. I don't know how long MIB's starters get to play, but Charlotte Overbye had 43 of their 90 points, so I'm going to assume she played most of the game....the two seniors had 12 and 10.
In my point of view, things are getting quite interesting....

Bigfork Stomps the Braves
The Lady Huskies take another win against the Lady Braves from Orr in a makeup game that was rescheduled from December 15th. The score at the half was 51-13 and the final score was 80-39. The starters did not play much of the second half and unfortunately the bench allowed their senior #31 to hit 3 or 4 three pointers in that period. Coach Powell is a polite winner and does not allow the starters to push the score up as they have had many chances this year to hit the century mark. I personally would like to see it happen once, and maybe that is selfish, but they work hard on defense and offense and it is frustrating to see the other team rack 10-15 points when the starters are out. It actually drives me nuts! Sorry Coach...
Anyway, there were three girls in double figures tonight, Shelby with 25, Megan with 24 and Adrianna with 17, Lise got her 8 in the first 5 minutes of the second half, Theresa with 2 and Robin with 4. I think Lise is saving herself for tournaments because she got those 8 points right away like it was nothing! She is amazing...
Orr has a freshman that is doing very well and could really dominate in the next few years. We thought they should have given her a couple more fouls than she had, but she is going to be a very good player!
Congrats to the girls once again and on Monday we have to travel to BABBITT....I really dread that drive home...it is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO far!
I hear that Shelby's future team, the Itasca Lady Vikings, defeated Mesabi Range College today in a big conference game by 10 points....it will be interesting to see how things pan out this year for them.

Shelby's College Plans
After many phone calls from different coaches and their players, many more texts, a few visits to the colleges and to watch a few of the teams play, Shelby has decided she will play volleyball and basketball for Itasca Community College next Fall.
Shelby has worked fulltime the past two summers at the USFS Forestry office in Blackduck, MN as a forestry technician and fell in love with her job. After her first summer, she decided that was what she would be going to college for so the decision to find a college with that in mind, wasn't too hard. UW-Superior was interested in her coming to play basketball for them but they did not have the curriculum she needed so that was out. Then Vermillion Community College called and Mesabi Range called so they were in the running. She attended several games at Mesabi and liked the campus and housing and met some great new friends but their curriculum wasn't quite what she was looking for either. We made the visit to Ely in mid-December and we both liked the campus and the coaches. She felt very comfortable there and knew a couple of the athletes and another student from Blackduck so VCC was at the top of her list because they had the curriculum/degree she was going to study.
Shelby's first intention was to get a little further away than Grand Rapids to experience a new atomosphere and environment, but the visit to ICC just wasn't going to let that happen. We knew from the get go that ICC had exactly what she wanted as far as Forestry/Natural Resources, but she just really did not want to stick around Grand Rapids as she is there all the time anyway!
We visited with the volleyball coach which was a good start, then had a student give us a tour and he ended up being a cousin to a girl from Park Rapids that Shelby played AAU ball with, then to the forestry building to talk with the guy in charge and that was very successful and gave Shelby a clear idea of what she wanted in that regard, then onto lunch with the basketball coach and half of the team. When she walked in the door there was one of the players she played AAU ball with from Deer River that she had a ball with and became good friends with...then a few other players from two different high schools that she played against and liked both of them, then the new girl from Michigan who was just a hoot, and talk about a live wire! (kind of like Shelby) She felt like she would fit in with them immediately and have fun playing ball with them, she knows they are all good ball players and she will get to play with Allie for her two years there, so that was good too. She left with a good feeling and we talked all day about pros and cons of both schools and made a list....the list for ICC was VERY long as she has family, a place to stay off campus, a part time job, our church in Cohasset, many friends and family that she can get help from if she needs it, two strong sports programs, and can get the forestry degree that she wants and move on a little further after her two years at ICC. She also liked that the college has about 1,000 students which is about double than VCC.
The forestry program there will also be SAF accredited next Fall (Society of American Forestors) which is a big deal (I guess) when it is on your diploma/degree. Vermillion will be accredited but not for about two years. That was another big factor in my mind.
Also being close enough for her parents and family to watch her play at ICC is just an added bonus. I would have traveled to Ely but this will be much easier....she decided that night and knew for sure but dreaded making the phone calls to VCC and Mesabi as she really got along with all of the coaches and would have enjoyed playing for each one of them.
I'm very proud of her for making a decision that she felt is best for her, even when her initial plan was to get a little further away. So I guess she will be a Lady Viking next Fall....she can relax now and just play ball for the rest of her high school season!

Bigfork Takes Win #12 Over Blackduck Drakes
The Lady Huskies put another W in the win column by defeating the Blackduck Drakes last night on their home court. It was an odd game from the start. We had one of our "favorite" refs (and I'm kidding when I say that...) so that made the game even more interesting. I kept thinking to myself, "what in the world is he doing all the way over here in Blackduck?". One of those "ugh" moments.
From the get go every little bump, touch, just ANYTHING was called and of course we ended up in foul trouble, three starters and the two off the bench were in foul trouble so that shook the girls up a little and they just couldn't get their game to run very smooth for some reason. Maybe that would be the reason? And I know you can't blame a bad game on reffing and there is really no point in arguing with them because they are not going to change their call, but still....did I say "UGH"?
For the first time EVER since I have watched numerous high school boys and girls basketball game, have the officials given the ball to the other team after a timeout, BEFORE the other team came back on the court! And you KNOW that other team was our Lady Huskies! So there goes Blackduck racing down the court with not one Huskie on the floor! Luckily they didn't get a point off of it or I think our fans and Greg would have all gotten a technical on that one! And about FOUR times their calls were totally opposite from each other and of course we were on the losing end 3 out of 4 of those...the whole night was just downright odd.
I have to give credit to Blackduck for a major improvement in their team since last year though. They passed the ball very well and played a nice game against our girls.
The score at the half was 25-17, Bigfork, and the final score was 60-47. There were actually three girls in double figures last night being Shelby with 18, Lise with 12 and Theresa with 14. Adrianna and Megan were almost there with 8 each.
The girls' next game is a makeup game against Orr this Saturday at 6:30 pm. The JV team will play at 5:00.
Congratulations on another win last night girls!

We haven't moved out of #7 yet and MIB is still #9 but their first loss isn't showing up yet and that might hurt them in the rankings. We'll have to wait a week and see! Actually, I looked back and not one position has changed from last week.

Bigfork v Nashwauk - Round Two Goes to Lady Huskies
The Lady Huskies were really cold the first half and ended up being down by one point at the half, 31-30. That gym has the most rigid hoops than any gym that the girls play in and it seems every year they struggle with their shots there. They did come out the second half and went on a run that the Spartans could not catch up with...they did keep hitting some key shots that kept them in the game for a while, but the Lady Huskies kept their composure and the shots starting falling with Shelby hitting three 3's in a row and Adrianna also hitting two more three's in that half (she had two in the first half). The final score was 69-50.
Shelby ended up the night with 22 points and Adrianna with 18, Lise and Theresa both had 7, Megan had 6, Robin 4, Brittney hit a 3 at just the right time in the first half, and Carolyn ended up with 2. Carolyn just came back after being out for three weeks with mono. We are glad to have her back!
MIB coaches and a few players were in attendance and I'm sure taking a few notes. It was a good game and one that the girls needed after a week long break. They sure have a knack for staying calm and getting the job done under pressure. They just don't give up....this was a big conference win for the girls as they are so far undefeated in the Northern Lakes Conference and Nashwauk is running second right now.
They travel to Blackduck this Thursday to play the Lady Drakes who have a record of 6-6 so they have improved from last year. Last year when we played them they hadn't won a single game. Shelby has many friends there and some family also in Blackduck and it's close to home for us, so there should be a nice crowd there also.
I will try and post a few pictures tomorrow. I did not take very many tonight though as the lighting isn't very good in that gym and I got a little frustrated with it so gave up and just enjoyed the game!
It would be considered mid-season now for their regular scheduled games (24) and their record is 11-1. Congratulations girls!

MIB Undefeated No More
The Mountain Iron-Buhl girls' team suffered their first loss of the season to Cook County (9-3 after MIB game) on Saturday afternoon. There is an article in the Mesabi Daily News about the game if anyone wants to check it out. MIB was trailing at the half 38-21 and missed 16 of 30 free throws! I bet they wished they had some of those freebie chances back.....I'm sure they will be working on free throws in practice! The article also said they had three girls foul out: Vanessa Aultman (no points), Charlotee Overbye (19) and McKenzie Overbye (11). The MIB boys also lost in the double header.
Nashwauk was set to play a tough Sebeka team yesterday also but it looks like it might have been rescheduled for January 24th. Sebeka is #1 right now in their half of Section 5A with a record of 11-2 and Barnum is #1 in the other half of that Section and undefeated with a record of 11-0.
Bigfork is set to play at Nashwauk tomorrow and it will be broadcast on 96.9 KMFY if anyone can't make it to the game. Hopefully we will have a good crowd from Bigfork to cheer on the girls.

Wow
I was at the 8th Grade Boys annual basketball tournament in Bigfork today as the girls' basketball runs the concessions and found out some interesting information. I had mentioned earlier about the Lady Mustangs leaving some "classy" writings on the blackboard in the boys' locker room after the game on January 12th. Someone that works at the school that reported the incident, said they couldn't have fit another word on the blackboard and that what they had written on the blackboard was very bad and too embarrassing for him to even repeat. There was so much written on the blackboard that the coach had to write his plays on the mirror....wow.
This really upsets me and it seems apparent that the coach must have known of the situation and did nothing about it. This says alot about their program to me and is just plain disgusting.
I hope that once it was reported to their Athletic Director that some type of disciplinary action was taken and that the parents were also made aware of the situation. I doubt it, but it would be the right thing to do in this situation. As a parent and a coach, I would be fuming that any member of my team would stoop to that level and they would definately be reprimanded. And as a parent, if my child/athlete were involved in ANY way and nothing was done, I would be upset that they were allowed to do it and served no punishment. There is no excuse for that type of behavior, period.
I hope the parents of our girls will send an email or a letter to the Athletic Director of Northome High School and voice their concern with regard to this matter.
And I hope next year the starters get to play the WHOLE game and see just what the outcome would have been or will be!

Deer River Game Rescheduled to Feb. 2nd
I just checked the MSHSL website and the Deer River game at Bigfork has been rescheduled to Monday, February 2, 2009 at the usual time. Unfortunately, the girls will have to play them the following week (Mon. 2/9) AT Deer River! I guess that is the best they could do with available dates so we'll all just have to adjust and be happy!
I guess they tried for a double header tomorrow night at Bigfork but the Deer River girls have a home game scheduled with Pequot Lakes. That would have been an exciting night with a full house!
The kids were able to go into the school for an open gym and get a little workout and some shooting done so that's a good thing! Good luck boys!

Minnesota Scores QRF Rankings
I am only listing the Top 25 as the QRF ranks every team in Class A. It goes to 158 but there are many ties in the list so there must be 170+ teams. The QRF is calculated maybe once a week in the early part of the season and then will start changing a couple of times per week closer to tournament time. If you decide to check out Minnesota-Scores.net you can also go back and see the QRF standing from prior years, and also the final section and conference standings from prior years.

Here is the QRF Explained (from their site)
The Quality Results Formula (QRF) was created to try and rank teams from different parts of the state. I won't go into specific detail about the formula, but can give you an idea of how it works.
Each game is given an individual QRF (iQRF) based four things (listed in order of importance)
Win or Loss
Opponent wins
Class differential between the teams
Margin of victory (or defeat) with a cap on both ends.
Logically, the more wins an opponent has, the higher your opponents Class is, and the more you win by the higher your iQRF is for that game.

Minnesota Scores Class Leaders - Single A
For those of you that don't know about the Minnesota Scores site, they have a section called "Class Leaders" which breaks down the Top Twenty in Records, Top Points Scored, Top Points Allowed, and Top Point Differential. After the score of each game is entered into their system, you will see the Top Twenty change a little. It is fun to keep track of and interesting to me. The site is Minnesota-Scores.net.
You can also check the QRF (which is my favorite), the standings in each Section, standings in each Conference, the Polls and check the Scoreboard for each day to see what games are scheduled and at night to see the results of those games. A fun sight to browse around on. Anyway, here are the Class Leaders as of this morning, 1/15/09. As you can see, Mountain Iron-Buhl is in every category below Bigfork...it will be interesting to watch the two teams play on February 26th, the last regular game before tournaments start. Unless there are some unexpected upsets in the Section before then, that will be a very important game for both teams. Everyone should mark their calendars for that game! Hopefully we can get alot of Bigfork fans to make the trip to MIB for the game as the girls will need some fans in the crowd!

School Cancels Because of Frigid Weather
Baaaaaa!!! That's me crying because that means there can be no game tomorrow night! If school is cancelled, all events will be cancelled also. Seems like we wait all year for the two games against rival Deer River so it is such a let down. I was in the middle of working on my poem so now I'll have to redo it! I even had a line in there about Old Man Winter possibly causing a problem....JINX!
At least the girls will all get to sleep in and get some rest! I think Shelby and I will make some cookies tomorrow for the boys team as THEY will get to play Deer River on Friday evening. Looks like it will warm up enough Friday for things to continue as scheduled....
This will be the second game cancelled because of weather and will have to be rescheduled. The Orr game was cancelled in December and is rescheduled for a Saturday, January 24th. When I get the information on the Deer River game, I will post it!
I'll have more time to work on the new poem and will already have to change it a little...now the girls will have to get ready for their game at Nashwauk on Monday, January 19th!
Oh yeah...our friendly Lady Mustangs left some really nice writings on the blackboard in the boys' locker room for our team....how unsportsmanlike, unclassy and what a poor impression that leaves on their team and school. What ever happened to losing with dignity?
Good luck boys against Deer River on Friday night!

New Team Picture
We took a new team picture yesterday afternoon as the day that Enstrom's came not all of the girls were in the picture that will be on the roster and our illustrious Coach Powell was also missing in action. So we took a quick one yesterday and of course had to take the "fun" one too! Those are my favorites. I was happy to get them ALL actually smiling for a change! Well, one girl has just a little smile but that works for me. Here are the two, you decide!

The Little Doggies Corraled Those Mustangs....
The girls played awesome defense again as the Lady Huskies had 44 points before they scored their first two points. The score at the half was 55-9 with the final score being 76-19 with lots of girls coming off the bench to play most of the second half and quite a bit of the first half also.
I checked to see what our score was against them last year and it was 71-19! Weird...Adrianna was top scorer tonight with 19 points and I believe there were four girls in double figures.
I love the expressions in some of the pictures and would like to know what was so funny between Andi and Shelby on the bench! Congratulations Lady Huskies!

GIDDY UP LITTLE DOGGIES!
This poem was fun to do because I love cowboy/western stuff and when it clicked that they were the Mustangs...it was on! My head was spinning with ideas and western terms and nicknames and this is what I ended up with...also a side note: Shelby actually attended school at Northome from first through third grade so three of the girls on the Kelliher-Northome team were her schoolmates and friends when she was little. So it's kind of a friendly rivalry and AGAIN I certainly do not mean to offend anyone! (Their coach's name is spelled Lundin but sounds like Lundeen)
GIDDY UP LITTLE DOGGIES!
The Lady Mustangs soon will be trottin’ to our town,
But this is Huskie territory and they will go down!
The fans are ready for a shootout at the Huskie Corral,
And who does it better? Yep, our sharp shootin’ gals!
Sundance Shelby and her sidekick Cassidy Klamm,
Are ready to run circles round their little stampede plans!
Any promenades in the paint won’t be pretty,
Cuz’ our own Outlaw Andi is just dog gone gritty!
We’ll lasso those Stangs and brand them with a BIG PAW,
While The Wild Bunch on the bench hollers out, YEE HAW!
Points will be slim pickin’s for those Kelliher fillies,
Because they won’t get past our pretty lil' deputies.
It will be the last shootout for Shelby to prove,
What a hustler they lost out on when she made the move.
Our Boot Scootin' Stewarts have their silver spurs on,
And are chomping at the bit to get this game goin!
Our Wild Maverick Meggie is ready for a duel,
She has her hand on the trigger and she won’t be fooled!
Another new coach and his name is Lundeen,
He’ll be shaking his head saying “Enough of this scene!”
He’ll pace back and forth, then finally give up,
Not a thing he can do will get them out of this rut!
He looks at his pardners and then down his bench,
The girls riding the pine can’t fix his quench.
Diablo Danielle and Pistol Packin’ Prather,
Are fast and strong, and are tearin’ up the leather.
Soon Cisco Kid Carolyn will be back in the saddle,
She’s anxious and ready to get back into battle.
Waiting for her turn to run out of the gate,
Is our own dark haired pony, Cadillac Kate.
There are some new cowgirls tearing up this frontier,
They’ve surely got everyone a talkin’ round here!
Saddle up those bleachers and grab your bandana,
Cuz’ you’ll think you’re at a rodeo in wild Montana!
So round up your pardners and Do Si Do,
These Huskie cowgirls will have everyone screaming loco!
Boy Howdy, these girls are quite the hoot,
Those poor little Mustangs were not ready for the boot!
YEE HAW LADY HUSKIES and thanks for the show,
We just can’t wait for your next Rodeo!

Huskies Win Again - BF 69 Remer 55
The Lady Huskies picked up win #9 tonight against the Northland Remer Lady Eagles. It was a good game with Bigfork up at the half 40-28. The Lady Eagles would not give up and #23 Kayla Heisler kept hitting her three's....it seemed like Shelby responded after every three that Heisler hit a three and Goble ended up with 4 three's for the night. I didn't get Heisler's final points but I'm sure she had at least 16+. I'll have to find out...
Northland sneaked up on the Huskies late in the second half and were just down by 7 but the Lady Huskies kept their composure and pulled out the win with two late baskets pulling away for the win. Adrianna and Theresa both had four fouls but were able to stick it out and keep playing to help the team with the win.
I don't mean to be a whiner, but it sure does seem every time we play at Remer we get called for every little touch, bump, etc. when they are shooting and we can get hammered on our end and not get a foul called...I think the girls are used to it and are able to play through it which is a blessing and says alot about their tenacity.
My spy at the Deer River/Nashwauk game sent me a text and informed me that Nashwauk defeated Deer River by two points! Must have been a good game with alot of action. We play Deer River next Thursday at home so be sure and come out to watch the game!
I will post photos of tonight's game tomorrow sometime...then off to watch Bigfork boys' host Cook tomorrow night. I will post pictures of their game on Saturday. Congratulations Lady Huskies and good luck to the boys tomorrow night!
By the way, I already have the poem ready for the Kelliher-Northome game and will post it probably on Saturday sometime. Better start working on the poem for the game against our friendly rivals, the Deer River Warriors...
