Summer League Happenings

Last night was the third week of summer league and Bigfork was set to play Grand Rapids in the first game and Greenway in the second game. However, the game against Grand Rapids did not get finished because of an altercation with a couple of Grand Rapids players and the ref. They were unhappy with a call before the halftime break and at the start of the second half decided they would say something to him about another call they didn't like. Words were exchanged between a couple of girls and the ref and he called the game over at that point. Bigfork happened to be ahead 27-26 at that time so I guess Bigfork won? It was a good game up to that point anyway! I can understand being upset at calls because we certainly have been before, but I thought a couple of the girls from Rapids were disrespectful in that they wouldn't let it go and said things that shouldn't have been said. Unfortunately they did not have a coach there and that might have made a difference in that at least the game wouldn't have been called off and the girls would have gotten to play the rest of the game. That is what summer league is for, to play ball. It's not a game that is going to affect a team's record or anything....oh well. Lighten up people!

The second game against Greenway was a blow out and ended up 59-33 with many of the younger girls getting to play and doing quite well! It was fun to see them playing and enjoying the game.

The girls are 5-1 right now in summer league play, their only loss coming to Deer River by 2 points.

Next week they play Nashwauk and Deer River so it will be a couple of tough games and we will probably be without Lise as she pulled a groin muscle at the Barnum tournament and it flared up again last night. She will probably sit out next week to save up for the Walker tournament on June 28th.
