Ruling the Raiders

The Lady Huskies ruled their roost in a game over the Greenway Raiders, taking the win in runaway fashion, 80-35. There were four girls in double figures and many scoring off the bench. Jenna, Shelby, Adrianna and Megan scored in double figures and Lise, Rachel, Teresa and Carolyn also put numbers on the scoreboard. The score was 46-20 at the half.

Flying, Dishing, Stealing & Stopping the Eagles

The Lady Huskies got their revenge on the Lady Eagles of Northland Remer with a huge conference win last night! The score at half was 27-21 Bigfork, and the final was 70-43 Bigfork! Way to go girls!!

It was a very physical and rough game as their were many bodies flying around and landing, bruises, bumps and even a broken nose for one of the Remer girls. It is never a good thing to see any player get hurt during a game. The parents, fans and coaches from the opposing team were pretty upset and let the refs know about it. I guess this young girl had broken her nose last year also....we hope she will be okay and able to play in their next game.

There were four lady Huskies in double figures tonight, Annalise, Jenna, Shelby and Megan...with Adrianna, Rachel and Teresa also scoring. Plenty of steals from all of the girls and downright good hustle!

The girls' QRF ranking as of today is #12 and won't play until next Thursday and Friday, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1st, Greenway and Babbitt with both games at Bigfork. The boys will play at Chisholm on Friday night so hopefully the girls will still get a nice crowd! The gym was filled again at last night's game so hopefully this is going to be a pattern as the rest of the season goes on.

Eagles brought down by the Lady Huskies

The girls defeated the Tower-Soudan Eagles for the second time this season by a score of 72-28. The first time the girls played them at home and the score was 76-44. 9 girls scored for the Huskies with three girls scoring in double figures. The girls played a great game as their former teacher and athletic director and his wife, Jerry & Susie Chiabotti, watched on in the crowd. Their son is the athletic director and Tower and they also live in Tower so they usually make the games when Bigfork comes to town. It was nice seeing them again!

Lady Huskies Bury the Drakes, 81-29

The girls beat the Blackduck Drakes last night by 52 points...the score was 43-14 at the half and the final 81-29. Their record now stands at 13-2. They are 9-0 in their half of Section 7A and are 3-1 in the conference with 6 more conference games to go. Next week's game against Remer will be a must win for the girls in the conference race.

The girls had another big crowd again last night with the opposing team being from Blackduck which is about a 45 minute drive for the Drakes. So many people from Blackduck and a big home crowd also. Nice to see again. The girls will play at Tower-Soudan on Monday the 21st.

The big game on Monday will be Wrenshall at Barnum. My prediction is Barnum, but you never know what will happen!

Girls Defeat Nashwauk AGAIN

The first half was a little shaky to say the least, as the girls only tallied up 8 points! I think they set a record with that one.....can't ever remember a time when the first half score was that low for Bigfork! But they came out with fire in their eyes and played hard and fierce and took control of the game. Their defense and intensity was fun to watch. KMFY and Jason from the Grand Rapids Herald Review were in attendance and I think the crowd was the largest I can recall for a girls' basketball game at Bigfork! That was nice to see....now if we could get the student body and crowd motivated to cheer a little bit, that would be great!

Megan was a trooper as she played even after having foot surgery that very morning. She had a broken piece of a sewing needle in her heel! Ouch.....

The girls are still #9 on the QRF as of today, 1/15/08 and are 9-0 in their half of Section 7A. This game was a big conference win and section win. Nashwauk is behind us in the section now, which is good.....Wrenshall is number one in the other half of Section 7A.

They had cake to celebrate Shelby's 1,000 points since she hit it over the Christmas holidays.

QRF and State Polls

The girls broke the top 10 barrier in the QRF again and stand at #9 as of 1/11/08. They did however, totally fall out of the top 10 AP Polls for Class A after losing to Remer. I don't understand how that works that they could totally drop out after being #5 for 8 weeks to not even being in the top 10 after that loss. Weird! But maybe it will take the target off their backs a little....maybe not....

The girls play at home against Nashwauk tomorrow, Monday, 1/14/08. This is a big conference game for the girls and they should be able to take control and pull out the win as they did against them at the Christmas tournament. The game will be on the radio again so if you can't come to the game you can listen to KMFY, 96.9.

Good luck Lady Huskies!! Show no mercy!!

Bigfork Girls Victorious over Rival Deer River

The girls had a tough first half leading only by 4 points, 20-16, but came out the second half and put it together, big time! They passed the ball very well and made some great plays....Deer River was without their top scorer in Lulu Seelye and it sounds like she will be out for the rest of the season due to an ACL injury. She is in physical therapy right now and then will have surgery. Tough loss for the Warriors as she is their floor general and a very nice young lady.

The B-squad lost their by 6 points but fought hard at the end only to come up short. I believe both C-Squad teams won their games also! Yeah!!!!

One Loss, Another Win, Record Stands at 10-2

The girls played a quick Remer team on 1/3/08 on their home court. Missing from the line up that night was Annalise Klamm so that threw the girls for a little loop! The Huskies were ahead at the half by 8 but Remer starting hitting everything they put up and as the girls were in foul trouble, Remer's free throws sealed the win. The final score was 61-54, Remer. I can't remember the last time the girls lost to Remer....the B-squad also lost but outscored the Eagles by 25+ the last half and made a game of it.

On Monday the 7th the girls played at Kelliher-Northome and rolled over the Mustangs with a halftime score of 42-7 and the final being 71-19! The B-squad also won their game with three girls out from illness.

The Lady Huskies will take on rival Deer River on 1/10 at Deer River. It will on the radio for anyone that can't make it to the game. The station is KMFY, 96.9 and starts at 7:30, pre-game at 7:15. Deer River will be out their top player and point guard Lulu Seelye due to a torn ACL. They will still be a tough team to beat and it is a very important conference game for the girls.

Trying to Stop Noga, Bigfork 56, Parkers Prairie 53

In the Consolation Championship game, the Huskies pulled off the win against Parkers Prairie, winning by 3 points. The Huskies' first 21 points were three pointers but Parker's Noga kept them in the game hitting many of her own. Noga is the daughter of the head coach and is a sophomore and is closing in on 2,000 points already. She never sits the bench and the ball usually goes to her although there were some other nice shooters on the team. As you can see in the pictures, it was all about trying to stop her in the second half as it was a close one....the halftime score was 31-32 in favor of Parkers Prairie.

The girls pulled it together and got their win as their record now sits at 9-1. Their QRF as of today is #15 with Wrenshall #13. Wrenshall suffered their first loss of the season against the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks in the Esko Coaches' Classic. Barnum is still undefeated with a record of 11-0.

The girls will take on the Eagles of Northland Remer next Thursday in Remer.

Huskies Defeat Nashwauk in Game 2

The girls beat the Nashwauk Lady Spartans in their second game of the Christmas tournament with a score of 67-49. Their were four Huskies scoring in double digits! Scoring was as follows:

Adrianna: 18
Annalise: 17
Jenna: 14
Megan: 10
Shelby: 7
Rachel: 2
Teresa: 1

Goble hits 1,000 points in 1st loss to Cambridge

Shelby Goble hit her 1,000 point on a free throw in the Huskies first game of the Hibbing Christmas tournament against AAAA Cambridge-Isanti. Cambridge had alot of height and foul trouble hurt us again as Adrianna and Megan both had to sit for awhile. The game was close and the lead changed several times but CI hit their free throws at the end of the game to help pull them out of reach for the Lady Huskies. This is their first loss of the season but they can hold their heads high as they played tough and almost pulled out the win against the four A school.

Here is a picture of Shelby's 1,000 point shot.

The score ended up being 62-54 and the points were as follows:

Lise: 17
Shelby: 15, 11/13 at the free throw line
Jenna: 15
Adrianna: 4
Megan: 2
Teresa: 1

Merry Christmas and a QRF ranking update

Merry Christmas to everyone! Hope everyone had/is having a wonderful holiday. The QRF ranking on the website Minnesota-Scores.net has really been fluctuating after each game. The Lady Huskies are now #20 with a rating of 36.6. Barnum has moved up to #8 at 45.3 and Wrenshall is one notch behind us at a tie #21 and 36.2. Barnum is 8-0, Wrenshall is 9-0 and the Huskies are 7-0.

The AP poll was updated on 12-19 and Bigfork is still ranked #5. The following is the ranking for Class A:

1. Ada-Borup
2. Barnum
3. New Life Academy
4. Wrenshall
5. Bigfork
6. Hancock
7. Granada-Huntley-East Chain
8. Russell-Tyler-Ruthton
9. Kittson County Central
10. Maranatha Christian

The girls were troopers and had practice early Christmas eve morning....sounds like everyone was there that needed to be there! I'm sure Coach was pleased about that. They have one more practice Wednesday afternoon to prepare for Cambridge in the Hibbing Christmas Tournament.

Shelby is getting close to her 1,000 points and could possibly get them that game. She said she would rather win the game as it is an important one and has plenty of games left to reach her goal! If she's being covered really well it will open up the other girls, all who can easily score in double figures so that's a good thing! Regardless, it will be a fun game to watch as the girls lost to Cambridge in the first game of the tournament last year. They need to avenge that loss and stay undefeated.... They play at 5:30 at the Hibbing High School so everyone come out and cheer the girls on!

Where Are You From?

Just curious about how many people are looking at the blog on a regular basis and where you are from! Post a comment where you are from and I'll list them....you don't have to say who you are if you don't want to...but mention if you are a family member, friend, coach, opponent, etc. and where you are from...state, town, etc. It will be interesting to see where people are from and if they are family members, etc. Thanks!

Boys lose a close one in Blackduck, 53-50

The boys played a really good game against the Blackduck Drakes on their home turf...it was close all the way and the score was back and forth. The Drakes pulled ahead by 6 with seconds left and Allen Francisco chunked a half court shot at the buzzer that swished! I haven't seen one of those in a long time! Even though they lost, it was a hard fought game on the Huskies part and the half court shot made them all smile and high five each other! The 8th and 7th grade teams and the B-Squad all won their games.

Win #7 over the Cook Little Gophers

The girls took out the Little Gophers on our home court beating them at the half, 40-19 and the final score being 67-35. Shelby didn't get her 1,000 points but we didn't think it would happen as she needed quite a few. We'll have to wait until the Christmas Tournament in Hibbing after Christmas. They will be playing a tough Cambridge-Isanti team which is a AAAA school. We played them the first game last season also and lost by about 9 or so. Hopefully the girls can win this one and stay undefeated. There are a couple of pictures of Annalise that are funny as she looks like she's ballerina dancing!

The points and stats are as follows:

Shelby: 19, 5 three's, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals
Jenna: 14, 3 three's, 8 assists, 4 steals
Megan: 12, 13 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals
Adrianna: 12, 1 three, 10 rebounds, 3 assists
Annalise: 6, 6 rebounds, 3 assists
Theresa: 4, 6 rebounds

B-Squad win a close one against Cook!

The B-squad are now 6-1 after winning an exciting game against the Little Gophers. The girls were behind at half but came back and won in a thriller! Britt Hoyt hit a three to tie it up and then they came back and tied it and Ashley Koppelmann made a layup to seal it. It was exciting and fun to see the Varsity team at the door cheering them on....I didn't write the score down again so don't have the final!

Little Gophers in the House tonight, QRF change

The girls play the Cook Little Gophers tonight at 7:30....Cook's record right now is 1-4. They do have a 9th grader that is very good and I think their top scorer right now along with Krystal Hill, a senior. Other than that, I think the girls should get another win tonight....my prediction anyway!

Shelby is closing in on her 1,000 points but will have to have one heck of game to reach it tonight. I guess it happens when it happens! There are sure plenty of games left in the season to reach the milestone....

It is fun to see so many girls from this team reach the goal as Jenna Beckner reached it last year as a junior and Nicolle Worcester reached it near the end of the season and now Shelby. There should be 3 more from this team that reach that goal next year and the year after that....lots of Lady Huskies will be members of the 1,000 point club!

The QRF changed again and the girls moved from #9 to #11 with the same score of 37.0 (because they haven't played again) and Barnum moved up to #8 above us with a score of 37.5. Wrenshall is tied at #28.

I'll have to check tomorrow after the girls play tonight!

QRF Ranking and Poll Ranking

The first QRF came out on Monday, Dec. 17th and the girls were in a tie at #17. The next QRF came out after their game in Cherry and the girls moved up quite a few notches to the #9 spot with a score of 37.0. They are above Barnum, #13 and above Wrenshall, #26!!!!! Other Section schools ranked as follows:

Ely, #24
Nashwauk, #39
Hill City, #45
MIB, #47
Chisholm, #48 (they were in the top 10 the whole season last year)
Cherry, T-#52
Remer, #60
Cook, #92
Tower, T-#100
Cook County, #106
Northome, #125
Orr, #127
Littlefork, T-#135!!!! wow
Babbitt, #142
Blackduck, #145

The girls are still #5 as of 12/12/07 in the AP Polls for Class A schools. That is usually updated once a week. The QRF changes usually the day after game days so after the girls play Cook Thursday it will be updated again around noon on Friday and then again the following Monday for teams that played over the weekend. It's fun to watch the QRF fluctuate.

Of course if the girls were to beat Cambridge-Isanti in the Christmas Tournament, who is a AAAA school, that would definately help their QRF as that is the only AAAA school that they will play this year. Beating teams like Deer River helps also because they are a AA school and have a good record and ranking this year. The girls cannot back down!!!! Go Lady Huskies!

Fouls Galore But Lady Huskies Prevail

The girls won their sixth straight game last night against the Cherry Tigers. They had two big girls, 6'2" and 6' that couldn't draw a foul. Bigfork ended the game with 24 fouls to their 6! Shelby and Adrianna both fouled out and Lise and Megan each had 4. The girls still pulled out the win and the score at half was 34-19 and the final was 62-42. Crazy....

Shelby: 17
Annalise: 15, 3 three's
Jenna: 14
Adrianna: 6
Megan: 4
Theresa: 4
Brittney: 2

The girls play Cook at home this Thursday, Dec. 20th.

B-Squad Beats Cherry, Now 5-1

The B-squad girls rack up another win....the game was close at half, 22-19 but the girls ran over them and shots were fallin' in the second half. We forgot to write the score down but I believe the girls beat them by 20+. Brittney Hoyt had a great game with 17 points tonight....seemed like everything she put up was goin' in! Great job Britt!
