Bigfork started pretty low on the QRF this year...at least in my opinion. They were at 28, then 26 and jumped big time to #4 after beating Hibbing and Cambridge-Isanti in the Hibbing tournament. That is a huge jump! Barnum is #2 and I think Parkers Prairie is #1 right now....interesting! Keep up the good work Lady Huskies!

Annalise Klamm Hits 1,000 Mark The Very Next Day

Annalise Klamm hit her 1,000 point on 12/29/09 in the second game of the Hibbing Holiday Tournament against Hibbing. She needed only one point to hit the mark. Here is her 1,000 point shot. Congrats Lise!

Hibbing Holiday Tournament Champions!!

The 2009-2010 Lady Huskies won the Hibbing Holiday Tournament for the first in their history of attending this tournament. I'm not sure how many years they have been going but at least 10 or more. I'd have to ask Coach Powell on that one. They easily defeated Eveleth-Gilbert the first day 68-43 with Adrianna hitting her 1,000 point in that game. She needed 10 and ended the night with 28. At the end of that game Annalise needed ONE point to hit her 1,000. She threw up a long 3 point shot at the buzzer and it hit glass, rim and then out...I was panicked because if it would have gone in I didn't have my camera ready for her shot! Good thing she missed...

The second game was against host team Hibbing and it was a very exciting one. Bigfork won that game 58-56 but it was close and intense. Annalise hit her 1,000 point of course and ended the night with 15 I think.

The Championship game was against 4A Cambridge-Isanti. The team that Bigfork drew as the first game in the past THREE holiday tournaments. Last year the girls lost in a very close game by 4 points. This year they had enough and took it to the Bluejackets and claimed the Championship! 63-60.

Bigfork Takes Care of Cherry

Bigfork defeated Cherry tonight on their home court, 57-32. The score at the half was 37-20. I don't have all the points for the girls so I will wait for the box score from Mesabi Daily News and add it tomorrow sometime.

They are ranked 5th in Class A in the State of MN right now. They moved down a notch after their loss to Grand Rapids.

I'm sure the girls are looking forward to a small break before the Hibbing Christmas tournament begins on December 28th, 29th and 30th. I'm looking forward to attending all three days of the tournament as I have those days off. Yippee! Finally get to see lots of basketball..Shelby will be coming with me to some of them. It will be fun for her to see the girls again...

Bigfork Takes Down the Orr Braves

Via a "basketball mom" telephone call, the Lady Huskies defeated the Lady Braves tonight by a score of 65-36. Sounded like it was a very physical and not so nice game! Megan had 16 points, Andi 15, Danielle 10, Lise 8 and Theresa 7. Don't know the rest....

I plan on being at the game this Thursday at Cherry...really, I am going to try!

The girls are now 5-1, the only loss being to AAA Grand Rapids. They are ranked 5th in Class A in the State of MN.

Bigfork Routs Chisholm

Bigfork handily defeated the Chisholm Bluestreaks on their home court last night. They were up at the half by 19 points and the final score was 68-28! Sounds like Megan had a monster game with 27 points, many from the free throw line. Andi and Lise had 12 and 8 points, respectively, to whittle their remaining points down to hit their 1,000 marks. I couldn't see the whole article on the Hibbing Daily Tribune as you have to pay this year to view the online articles!

I subscribe to Mesabi Daily News online but not Hibbing...Mesabi usually has box scores but didn't last night because the Hibbing paper was there I guess...just can't win! Since the article was written by Ted Anderson it should be in the Herald Review this Sunday so look for it there if you want to read the full article...

The girls next game is at Orr on Monday, Dec. 14th. I have to work that day also so won't be able to attend but will be going to the game in Cherry on Dec. 17th. Maybe I can finally get a few pictures to put up!

Work Instead of Play...Awww

I was planning on going to the game tonight in Chisholm to watch the girls BEAT Chisholm, but got a call yesterday from da boss. They needed someone to work so I dutifully said I would....I will get an update from a couple of moms and post what information they can give me.

I did see this morning that Remer beat Deer River last night in OT, 60-58. Bet THAT was a good game...haha. A little physical too maybe? The Northern Lakes Conference title just might be very interesting this year!

I bet the next time they play Deer River will won't let that happen again! Then they will be split...could get VERY interesting down the road a little ways. Can't wait for the games between Nashwauk, Remer and Deer River....

Bigfork Defeats Littlefork-Big Falls

Bigfork defeated the Littlefork Lady Vikings once again...the final score was 67-20 in a game that started out pretty sloppy. As the game went on it got better of course. The Lady Huskies took over from the get go and never let up.

Adrianna led all scorers again with 20 (four three's), Lise 14, Megan 8, Teresa 7, Paige 6 (two three's again), Britt Hoyt with 5 or 6 (I thought she had two threes also), Carolyn with 3 and Danielle with 2 or 4...can't remember them all and accidentally lost my paper!

Score clock is getting easier and was a little worried when the refs walked in as it was Pollard and Erzar, two of the top refs around. It was fun sitting with Heather and catching up a little bit in between. She does scorebook and has for a few years and we used to coach volleyball together. I miss visiting with her everyday.

The girls play at Chisholm on Thursday and I plan on attending unless something comes up. I will finally be able to take some pictures!

It is sure different not watching Shelby play with the girls...just doesn't seem right! It is still fun watching the girls though and the younger ones coming up.

Waiting to see who won between Nashwauk and Cook tonight as that might have been a close game. We'll see....

Posting Again....

I decided I will post information as I have time for this season's Lady Huskies. Instead of starting a new blog I will just continue to add to this one as it is being "googled" and searched and still has many hits per day/week.

Last year the team ended their season at the Minnesota State High School Basketball Tournament and ended up taking fourth place in the State! Not bad for a tiny little town with the high school attendance being approximately 70+. They ended their season 31-3.

Interestingly, this years team pre-season ranking in Class A is 4th.

This year's team has four returning starters in Megan Powell, Sr., Annalise Klamm, Sr., Adrianna Ivanovic', Sr. and Theresa Stewart, Sr. Carolyn Thurston, Jr. has been starting so far this year in the fifth spot. I need to find the official roster and I will add the entire roster with their appropriate grades.

The girls are 2-1 so far this year with the first two games being blowouts against Cotton and Tower-Soudan and losing this past Saturday to AAA Grand Rapids. 57-46. Grand Rapids is a good team that also made a State appearance the past two years. Grand Rapids started the game off shooting well and took the lead. Bigfork battled back to tie the game and take the lead for a while until Rapids took it back and didn't let go.

Adrianna had a hot night shooting and ended up with 27 of Bigforks' 46 points, including four three pointers. Theresa Stewart had a nice game with 9 points and unfortunately two of our main scorers in Megan and Lise, just couldn't get a break and ended up with only two points each on the night which rarely happens as these two girls averaged in double figures last year.

Bigfork gave Rapids a run for their money and if our girls would have shot at their normal averages, they certainly could have walked away with a win.

They play at home tonight against rival Littlefork-Big Falls. Unfortunately I am not able to take as many pictures as I will be running the score clock and cannot do both at the same time. I may have someone take a few with my camera each game so I can post a few pictures of each game. We will see how that works out...

Also interesting to note is the fact that Annalise Klamm AND Adrianna Ivanovic will hit their 1,000 points this season, and early in the season. I'm hoping it is at an away game so I can take pictures of both accomplishments! That will make six Lady Huskies that have joined the 1,000 point club within the past four years. Quite a statement with this group of girls. Nicolle Worcester (07'), Jenna Beckner (08'), Shelby Goble (09'), Megan Powell (10') who is currently playing and then the two upcoming in Annalise and Adrianna.

Goodbye, Part II

Sorry it has been sooo long and I see several people keep checking the site to see if I have posted anything new....one neighbor from church nicely reminded me a few weeks ago that he was still waiting for Part Two!!

After I wrote Part One I realized that I'm just really telling the same story that this blog did over the past three years....I will write some more and if anyone doesn't want to read, just click out I guess....

I ended with the girls winning the tournament in Nashwauk and how that is when some of the parents got together and discussed starting a traveling team with these young girls. I wrote a letter with pictures no less, and sent it out to businesses and family and friends asking for any type of donations to help with the girls getting uniforms and paying tournament fees. Well it worked out and the girls were fortunate to receive over $2,000!! There were three businesses in Grand Rapids that were very helpful and Rick Ferguson of Swanson Motors actually came to the house to hand deliver a check that paid for the girls' uniforms....Rick ended up following the girls closely and actually played a part in their story as he was a sports commentator for KMFY with Mark Masters and they broadcast the girls' games ever since the girls all started on Varsity. The sad part was they both quit broadcasting the year that the girls actually made it to State....that was sad because they had been a big part of the story.

So the girls got their uniforms and their first ever Pacesetter tournament was in Bemidji at the new high school....I remember the girls all wanted their hair braided and also remember having that famous "basketball stomach" that never quit until after the State tournament!

The girls ended up winning their first game against Clearbrook-Gonvick in double OT....it was a fun game and I have it on tape. It is one of my favorites to watch because the 9th grade Red Lake boys team was waiting in the wings to play on that court and they were really getting into the game....Megan stole the ball and got to the three point line and swished a 3! Mind you she was in 5th grade....the Red Lake players were jumping up and down and bowing to her...it was really exciting. They ended up losing the second game against Bagley at the buzzer on a 3 point shot by Lise that rolled in and came out....they bawled their eyes out. That was a team that the girls ended up playing a few more times and we got to know some of them and the coach pretty well over the years. Just the start of many, many Pacesetter tournaments and tons of memories. I have the stat book somewhere for that summer and I believe the girls played in about 30 games!

This went on for about three spring and summers, so you can see why these girls played so well together. They did it for a LONG time!

There are so many memories of road trips, hotel stays and eating at fun and new restaurants and of course shopping....we used to find hotels that had pools, but the girls rarely swam as they were too tired or we got in too late from games. We finally figured out that we didn't to find a hotel with a pool and spend the extra money. We found ways to carpool, bring our snacks and waters, room share (tons) and on and on.

I have to throw this one in for Andi...we were driving home from a tournament and going through Garrison....it was the first time she had seen that Lake and asked us if it was the ocean!! We laughed and laughed and still tease her about it today....

Shelby and Adrianna were the first two to sign up for AAU with Tim Mayclin out of Bemidji. Along with Jenna who played on an older team. Shelby and Adrianna played together for two years on the same team with girls from Bemidji, Bagley, Pelican Rapids and Hawley. We finally got Megan and Annalise to play on the Gym Rats for one year and it was alot of fun, even going to Chicago for the Nike Summer Showcase...Menominee (sp) and several in the cities, including the North Tartan Meltdown, which was truly a meltdown of sorts. It was at Bloomington Kennedy and the air conditioning was not working the end of July...VERY, VERY hot to point of the fans (us) dripping with sweat! I couldn't believe the girls had to play in that heat and it was very hard on them as well as the other players. They sat on the bench with bags of ice on their heads and necks to try and cool them down...a few players even collapsing with heat exhaustion and having to be taken away in an ambulance!

The girls did however qualify for the AAU State Championship tournament in the cities, so were in the Elite Eight....it was during and after these tournaments that we as parents knew they had something very special....they had to play some very tough city teams and actually teams from all over the country, and always played right with them...they lost some close ones, won some close ones, and had a few blowouts on the losing end and the winning end....BUT all of these games made them stronger and tougher when it came to the regular season of Basketball in Bigfork and Section 7A.

Better get off and get something done here....more to follow later.

Goodbye, Part I

I have been procrastinating writing my final thoughts on the blog as I hate to end it. But, it has to be done...I had originally wanted to write a letter and read it the sports banquet with a slideshow but just did not have time with the graduation activities, etc. SO....I am going to try and explain to everyone just what these girls and these past few years have meant to me....it will take more than one writing as there are lots and lots of memories and I want to start from the beginning when they were itty bitty basketball players in the Saturday Ball program at Bigfork School.

We transferred Shelby to Bigfork in 2000 when she was a fourth grader unaware what adventures lie await for us there....she was welcomed warmly by her classmates and made new friends quite fast. It didn't take long to understand what basketball meant to BHS. Shelby's older sister and brother both played basketball so we started following their teams and were hooked....both squads had very good ball players, many who are on the 1,000 point board in the gym...I remember following the boys' team to Duluth for the Section 7A Championship game against Ely in which they lost and took 2nd place...it was an exciting experience and so sad to see those boys accepting their 2nd place medals and just "almost" making it to State. Shelby, Lise and Megan all dressed up and painted their faces and cheered along with Howler at UMD and that was the first taste for me....

December came and along with it came Saturday basketball....I have a picture of the three (Shelby, Lise and Megan) in their yellow team shirts and I remember putting it in a scrapbook along with the words "future Huskie basketball stars"....how ironic is that? This was the year before Adrianna came along and the four became close friends and got pretty serious about basketball. Of course there were many other young girls that played at that time, some that are still playing, some that left and came back and some that decided basketball wasn't their thing.

Another first memory was the very first "real" tournament the girls played in when Shelby was in fourth grade. It was Shelby, Britney Stewart, Ann Boessel, Morgan Scheff (can you believe that) as fourth graders, and Lise, Megan, Robin, Theresa and Ashley as third graders and of course Greg Powell was their coach. The tournament was at Kelliher and I have part of it on video...they are soooo cute running everyone in circles! Megan shot the lights out and Lise still dribbled low and around everyone....Shelby stole the ball alot and I can hear Morgan's mom Lisa in the background yelling the girls on....her mother passed away a couple of years after that so it's sentimental to hear her voice on that tape....my battery ran out so I didn't get to tape the whole game, but they did end up winning in a "free throw shootout" for first place. I posted the picture quite a while back and that was just the beginning....Britney and Theresa moved away for about five years and came back two years ago...Ann and Morgan quit playing and well, the rest are still playing except for Ashley her injured her knee and is still on the team, but unfortunately can no longer play.

The following year most of the same girls played Saturday ball and Adriana joined that year....this is the year that things got interesting and a light bulb went off in my head. The girls were signed up to play in a little tournament in Nashwauk and Rob (Megan's dad) was the coach. It was exciting because at that point (Shelby was in 5th and the rest were in 4th) you could see how competitive these little girls were...OMG. I remember watching them play from up above in Nashwauk's old gym and time after time Shelby would steal the ball at half court...she was so hungry for that ball...they easily beat the teams they played and then came Chisholm. Bob McDonald was coaching and we were a little nervous because it was "Chisholm" and Coach McDonald was their coach...the girls went out and played hungry and beat them by double digits. I remember they were a little shocked that they got beat by Bigfork...and the rivalry with those girls began. There was one little girl that we gave a nickname to that day that stuck until they were done playing her...."Mickey Mouse ears". She was a cutie and also a good basketball player. Ironically, she was the girl that a few years ago, with just seconds left, threw up a half court shot in which Megan fouled her....we were up by one point and she made two free throws to win the game by one point. That was also the year that Bigfork lost to Chisholm in the Section Championship....interesting, huh?

Anyway, the girls won that little Nashwauk tournament and I still have the notebook that Jesse Powell kept stats in....I also posted a picture of the girls from that tournament a while back on this blog....you know me, pictures of everything! I remember my sister-in-law came to watch one of the games and was very impressed with the girls..she had to leave and when the girls were done and had won the tournament I remember pulling off the road to call her to tell her they had won...I will NEVER forget the feeling I had at that moment. I was so proud of these little girls and was so totally impressed. That was when a thought went through my head that "one day these girls will have a shot at making it to the State Tournament". They were only in 5th and 4th grade, but I just knew they would get there one day.

That was the beginning of their little traveling team and endless spring and summer tournaments....I have no idea how I remember all of this stuff and I know lots of people think I'm crazy, but it brought me great joy to watch them over these past 8 years...and so the story began....

I will try and write a little more at a time....hope I'm not boring everyone! Just want the people that have followed this blog to understand why I even did it! Many reasons and many, many memories....

Shelby's Graduation Party

We had Shelby's party yesterday at the Marcell Family Center and it turned out to be a beautiful day and the party went great....was worried about not having enough food, but it turned out just right. A little bit left over to take to the church this morning for Sunday potluck....

Tracy Schaar of Tracy Cakes did an outstanding job on the cakes...they were beautiful AND delicious! Exactly what we wanted as far as the decorating went also....they went perfectly with our "green theme"! We went for green instead of blue & gold and even had a table with tree seedlings to that everyone could take one and go home a plant balsam or white pine seedling. Of course the reason being, Shelby will be studying Natural Resources and Wildland Firefighting in college.

She was given two beautiful quilts, one from Desirae and Cody's mom, Carole. She makes rag quilts and I had asked her if she could do something with some of the many, many t-shirts Shelby had acquired over the years from miscellaneous camps, tournaments and AAU stuff. She made a quilt with 20 blocks of her various t-shirts and surrounded them by blue and gold...it turned out great! (So save those t-shirts!)

Then Auntie Connie Gross, who has been making gorgeous quilts for years, brought her one made of a bright green and bright pink that she loves also! Auntie Delores made her a huge fruit salad platter that was delicious and almost too pretty to eat....but we all did of course.

There were three huge picture boards and one table with her sports honors and awards and another table that had all of the memory boards from every sport she was ever in since 5th grade! Plus of course a few scrapbooks...

I have to say I am glad that it is over and that it went well....I don't know that it could have gone any better! We were all blessed with a beautiful day, party and family and friends to share both with...thanks to everyone that came!

Graduation

The day finally came for Shelby and her classmates from the BHS Class of 2009 to graduate! It seemed surreal to me and just did not seem like the day was here and she was actually graduating.

The Validictorian was Justin Mann who had just qualified for State in the shot put the day before and the Co-Salutatorians were Viki Krachtt and Britney Stewart. It was a very nice ceremony with Jacob Rahier (2008) and Jared Anselmo singing A Simple Man. The slideshow went well and when the choir went up to sing The Prayer was when I cried....seeing Shelby, Lise and Megan standing there together for the last time was what got to me.....ugh. So hard to believe she won't be with them next year!

Here are a few pictures from the day....the one of Shelby laughing was after they threw their caps and Joe G's got stuck up in the rafters! Leave it to Joe G!

I will post a few more pictures once I get them from Shelby's camera and my final note to end the blog after Shelby's grad party on the 6th....need to get through that this coming week!

Athletic Awards Photos

Just a few pictures from the Athletic Awards the other night. Megan received a ball for her 1,000 point and her 1,000 rebound. She made her 1,000 point the first game of the season and then reached 1,000 rebounds at the State tournament. That is quite impressive, both achieved during her junior year! Megan also was presented with her the 1,000 point club board that will be joining the others in the gymnasium.

There is a picture of the Senior athletes receiving their plaques. Missing was Sarah Rooks, Britney Stewart, Jared Anselmo and Michael Sheppard. Shelby and Justin both ended up with 13 letters each although Shelby was missing one year from volleyball, her ninth grade year, so I don't know what was up with that or if they just missed it.

Another picture is of the five girls receiving their Northern Lakes All Conference plaques and certificates. That was another first as Bigfork had five girls receive the honor this year, Theresa Stewart, Shelby Goble, Adrianna Ivanovic, Annalise Klamm and Megan Powell.

Finally, I took a picture of Shelby with Coach Powell and her "finished" board that will be put back up in the gym. She received the board last year with the final total. She did end up being the second highest scorer in Bigfork...so far. Mason claimed that title for a few years and it will be fun to see if his sister Megan will be able to claim that title back in the Powell family! You just never know what will happen!

Megan received the award for Most Assists, Lise for Most Steals, Andi for Most Rebounds, Shelby for Best Free Throw Percent and Lise for Most Improved. Greg has never given an award for the most points in a season. You can see how they worked as a team by the awards they were given. He mentioned that between everyone on team there were 500+ assists. (I can't remember the number he said but it was impressive)

He also mentioned that Shelby was picked as an All State selection for Class A teams in the State of Minnesota and that the Coaches Association picks 12 girls out of over 900 girls that are on Class A teams in the state, so she was in the top 2%! That was interesting to know....I knew it was a big honor and that really puts it into perspective.

It was a long night as the ceremony went for about 2 1/2 hours, but it was very nice. I didn't have my slideshow done and there were a few disappointed people, but they would have been there another hour if I had it done, so probably a good thing! I still plan on doing one and we will just get together one evening at the school and watch the show...then it can be as long as I want it to be!

Athletic Banquet Tomorrow Night

The BHS Athletic awards will be held tomorrow night at the Edge Center. I actually can't remember the time and will have to find out tomorrow! Last year they combined all the sports together and it actually went very well...the coach/coaches of each sport talk about their respective seasons and present awards, etc.

I was planning on doing a slideshow but never had the time to put it together the way I wanted so there will not be one....it would take hours and hours and I just don't have the time right now with graduation, etc. Maybe someday I will put one together for Shelby....

Lord's Army Youth Group Car Wash

Shelby is a member of the Lord's Army Youth Group from our sister church in Cohasset, Mn. The Good News Bible Church. They had a car wash today to raise money for a trip to Valley Fair that will be taken in August. The group started last September and has grown tremendously....they meet once each month and have had different trips and activities thrown in between such as a UMD football game, ice fishing with a ton of prizes, hayrides and bonfires and cookouts and more.

Today they had 54 kids show up and washed 53 cars! The cost was $10 per car and with that you got a free hamburger! Of course most people donated a little more than the $10 as it is going for a great cause...the kids were required to be at the car wash to be able to go to Valley Fair.

There are kids from Grand Rapids, Greenway, Deer River, Bigfork and Northome schools. I'm probably forgetting one or two....

The little girl in the pink shirt with Shelby is the one that I mentioned earlier in my blog that went home after youth group and emailed her grandma and said "you won't believe who was at youth group tonight! Shelby Goble! (right after they made it to State and her Grandpa was Shelby's coach and the Lady Huskies are her idols) It was so cute...

Senior Reception

Everything about the Senior Reception was very nice....simple, but yet classy and organized. The stage looked great and you can see in the pictures that they had their Stargazer flower with a quote as the backdrop. Char Westerman, Class President, gave a short speech and then they went directly into presenting a few of the awards. Jared Anselmo had a piano solo, that he composed himself. It was a beautiful piece.

Then onto more awards and presentation of the Class by Pam Francisco, who has been one of their class sponsors since 7th grade.

Here are a few pictures of the night....Char at the beginning, Shelby being presented the VFW - Orbin Holt Vocational/Technical Scholarship from Foster Bjorge Post 1764 and the three, Justin Mann, Britney Stewart and Shelby after being presented with "Stephanie's Gift" Scholarship from the Bigfork Ambulance Service representatives.

I am waiting for a copy of the picture of the class with the cakes but haven't gotten it yet and will post it at that time....

Senior Reception Tonight

The Senior Reception and Award Ceremony is tonight at the Edge Center at 7:00 pm. I have to pick up the two cakes that we ordered from Tracy Schaar over at Squaw Lake...she makes the BEST cakes and is very talented at decorating also...she will also be making Shelby's graduation cakes and a few other Bigfork graduates' cakes.

We always order our cakes from her...Desirae's wedding cake, Rod & Max's 50th Anniversary cake, Shelby's 1,000 point cake and many more....she is also a talented cook as her family owns the Mistic Strawberry Farm and they have a restaurant on the farm during strawberry season...her number is 659-4308 if anyone ever needs a delicious cake!

I will have to take a picture of them to post....(they are having two). One will have all of their names on it with the boys' names in black and the girls' names in hot pink with their class flower (a fresh Stargazer Lily) and the other will be the normal Congratulations Seniors in their class colors..

I'm hoping it will be a good scholarship night for all the seniors that put in scholarship applications. I know some didn't take the time to fill them out and others (like Shelby) filled out every single one they could! Shelby has heard back from some of them with bad news and some of them with good news...there will be others tonight that are announced that will be surprises. Shelby did receive a call last Friday from someone on the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce that she was in their Top 5 and they wanted to do a phone interview with her since she wasn't in town. She did the interview on Monday and they called her back yesterday afternoon and told her she would be receiving one of their scholarships! Yippee!!! Everything helps....will pay for her books for one semester!

I will post pictures tomorrow with the cakes and how she does scholarship wise....looks like it's clearing up outside as it was raining hard this morning...should be another beautiful day!

The End of Blog Coming Soon...

I have decided that I will end this blog once Shelby has graduated on May 30th, 2009....It has been fun keeping up with her and the Lady Huskies over the past three years and since her time will be done at Bigfork High School, it is time to end this blog.

The purpose of this blog was to journal her high school basketball career, along with her teammates on the Lady Huskies basketball team. I tried to post any and all accomplishments regarding the team and the individual girls over the years, along with photos from the games that I attended. (My favorite part!)

Truthfully, the comment that was made about my daughter on an earlier post has brought me to this decision. I can't even tell you how many hours I have put into this blog and I hope it did bring some enjoyment to a few proud parents and family members....hopefully another parent or interested Lady Huskie fan can start another blog to keep up with the team next year as I think they will have another successful season.

I was originally going to keep it going through next year but will now end it and focus on life after Basketball in Bigfork....mine and Shelby's at ICC in the Fall. She registered for her college classes last Friday and it made me happy to see her so excited about starting college and making new friends. We had lunch with Coach Bauer and he mentioned me starting a new blog on the Lady Viking basketball team next year...so that is what I will pour my extra time in.

I will post info the next two weeks up to her graduation and then will stop posting....the blog will stay up so people can view the past few years, maybe. I might just delete the whole thing too....haven't quite decided on that yet, but will in the next two weeks.

Shelby went to the Blackduck Prom last night and had a great time...I'm happy that she was able to such a nice event.

Short Update

Not too much going on but working on graduation things for Shelby and for others. I got the last half of Shelby's invitations in the mail today and have a few to hand out at church on Sunday and then that will be done! Yeah...

I dropped off Shelby's uniforms at the school today as I got them washed up after the All Star games in Minneapolis. I also had to drop off the ball from her "1,000" point game so the art teacher can paint the date, 1000 points and then her final career total will also go on there. Greg said her final was 1,880 points and she is now the second highest scorer on the wall behind Angie Chernugal with over 2,400 points. When she hit her 1,000 points she was at the Holiday Tournament in Hibbing so they gave her the game ball and it has an anchor on it so that makes it special too.

Tomorrow I am busy working on a couple of graduation invites for seniors and a senior picture order from a session in October....nothing like waiting until the VERY last minute! I also need to work a little more on the senior slide show...scan two more of the seniors and wait for a couple more to give me theirs...then I can finish it up and put the music to it. It has been fun to see all of their baby pictures.

A chilly and rainy day today and tomorrow so it will be a good day to sit at the computer and work on things....

A Few Pictures From All Star Series

Here are just a few pictures. I didn't get too many the second game that were to my liking. I didn't have my camera set right or something because they are a little too fuzzy! I'm just posting one of the Class AA team and where they are all going to college and a picture of the "remaining" six girls from the Class A team. As you can see, they are pretty wore out! They lost to the Class AA team 100-61. The reason they only had six was one girl had prom Saturday, one girl had a big softball tournament and the other one left the hotel Friday night, stayed out until very late and when she got back she was told she was off the team and could not play the next day. The right thing for them to do and it left a hardship for Class A, but had to set a precedent for the future.

I like the pictures of the Class A team from the first game as they are all in their home uniforms and the colors are great! They had 9 girls that game but lost 81-57 to the Class AAA team. They had girls going to St. Cloud State, Providence College, Briar Cliff/Southwest, two to University of Minnesota, Bethel University, Drake University, University of MN-Crookston and a couple undecided. The one picture of Shelby "trying" to guard Princeton's #25, Katie Loberg, is 6'4" and going to the Gophers. Lots of talent on all of these teams.....

I just have her home uniform to wash up and then we can return her uniforms to the school for the last time....sad but she is ready for a new start with a new program and new teammates. She will surely miss the Bigfork girls, but it's time to move on.....

What a wonderful couple of days I had with Shelby and her Grandma Max....this had to have been the classiest, most enjoyable All Star games I have ever attended! Not taking away from the other All Star Games' Shelby was in this year, but this event was very put together and just VERY nice all around. I was just so impressed with everything and even though the Class A team lost both of their games, it was an honor just to be a parent of one of the players and enjoy it all....

My mother-in-law and Shelby's Grandma, Maxene, came with us and we had a very nice time...we left Hibbing Thursday afternoon after Shelby and the Bigfork Choir competed in the State competition in Virginia and got to our hotel around 6:30 pm....my driving directions from Google worked just great!

We checked in and of course had to get off to the Mall of America right away as that was the only day Shelby would be able to get any shopping done...and if you know my Shelby, she LOVES to shop! But we did have a few things we needed to get for graduation, so it worked out great and we had fun. We took Grandma Max to the Bubba Gumps restaurant on Floor 3 and it was delicious. We were pretty tired after and headed to the hotel and went straight to bed....up early to get ready and get Shelby to the Minneapolis Hilton by 9:00 a.m. Traffic was a little busy at it was morning rush hour but we got there in plenty of time. Parked in the parking ramp and had to pay $5 just to walk her in and then be told to leave right as we dropped her off! The lady asked what Class she was in and when we said Class A, she said "okay, you can leave now!" So we did.....paid $5 for parking for about 15 minutes....

We left for IKEA to shop for some graduation party items and then to the Mall of America again...took Max to Johnny Rockets for lunch and she got a kick out of the old fashion diner as we ate at the counter and put our $.15 in for three songs from the jukebox. Roy Orbison, Dion and I can't remember the other one.....went back to the hotel and relaxed for about an hour and then off to the first game at MacCalester College. What a super nice venue that was...brand new. We walked in and Shelby's coach from Bigfork (Coach Greg Powell) was there with Adam Johnson, a UW-Superior asst coach. We went in with them and waited a bit for the teams to arrive....they walked in with their new Nike warmups and looking sharp. Visited with Amber Dvorak's parents for a bit and with Amber, as she couldn't play in the first game as she is a Division 1 recruit and can only play in two all star games. She played in the Border Battle with Shelby so that counted as one game and since this one had two games, she could only play in one of them and they decided she would play in the second game. She was told to play it cool and not attract attention could not even step on the playing floor!

Class A played Class AAA and lost that game 81-57. I believe both teams had 9 players but the Class AAA definately had height advantage and another 6'5" Gopher recruit. I was amazed at the talent and the majority of the girls playing were going to Div 1, 2 and 3 schools. There were a few that were undecided but most were commited. Each girl wore they own school jerseys and the Class A team were the home team, so they wore the dark jerseys....my favorite because they were all different colors! I will post pictures tomorrow as I just downloaded them and haven't gone through them yet....

The next game was Class AA vs. Class AAAA and that was a much closer game. I can't remember the final score but it was back and forth and close the whole game. AAAA might have won by 5? Can't remember! Fun game though and I thought Class AA was going to win it the first half.

Today Class A was shorthanded and only had six girls....very hard on them as the Class AA team had their 9 girls and all were very talent girls going to Division 1 and Division 2 schools. Class A actually played close for a bit but since there was no relief for the three guards (played the entire game), it was just too much for them. They subbed the three taller girls and the three guards stayed in the entire time. So Andrea Gould (Wrenshall), Alyssa Gullekson (Fertile Beltrami) and Jessica Benson (Grand Meadow) all took turns, each one sitting and taking their turns on the court. Nicole Smart had the hot hand today for Class A and was awarded MVP honors for their team while Brittany Chambers was awarded MVP for the Class AA team.

I will fill in some more info tomorrow as there is more to talk about....here are a few pictures of the girls from Shelby's camera and the banquet....I will fill in about the banquet tomorrow and go through my action shots tomorrow....late and ready to hit the sack! Here are some cute ones from today.....some are in the locker room from today's game and the others are from the banquet this morning...one has the four roommates with Gopher Emily Fox (guest speaker) and the other picture they are with Taylor Hill (Ms. Basketball winner). Shelby roomed with Nicole Smart (Ada-Borup), Sam Lynn (Adrian) and Alyssa Gullekson (Fertile-Beltrami). Ada-Borup was the Class A State winner this year and Adrian lost to Barnum in the first round game at State this year by only a few points.

Taking Off for the Big Cities...

We are leaving for Minneapolis this morning and will pick Shelby up in Hibbing after their performance at the Choir State competition in Virginia. Shelby's grandma Max and I are going with her and will have a good time visiting and watching her last high school basketball game, albeit with other teammates! I like the fact that each girl will be wearing their school uniforms so that will make for some nice pictures...and the very last time she will be wearing the Bigfork Huskie uniforms.....how sad.

I'm sure we'll make the trek to the Mall of America tonight as our hotel is nearby and she will want to "look" around...right! She needs a sundress to go under her graduation gown as the girls are wearing white gowns and the boys black this year...the girls are all wearing white sundresses underneath. I'm sure we'll find something at the mall...hopefully on sale.

I will post info about the tournament, the banquet on Saturday and pictures from the games when I get home....so check back in! Now, I need to get busy and get my stuff together before I leave...later!

If you look to the left you will see "All Star Game" and click on that link to see the four teams for the games this weekend in Minneapolis. They meet at 9:00 am on Friday morning so we will drive down Thursday afternoon after Shelby is done with their choir competition at the State meet in Virginia.

They play Friday night and then again Saturday afternoon....check back on Monday and I will have some pictures posted from the games!

BHS Choir Competing at State on 4/23

The Bigfork High School Choir will be competing in State competition on April 23, 2009 at Virginia High School. Luke Votava will also be performing a solo....when he performed at Greenway to qualify for State, he made the judges cry. He and the choir will be performing tonight at the National Honor Society induction so if you have a free night, please come out to the Edge Center at 7:00 pm. Both Jared and Shelby are in choir together, along with Megan Powell and Annalise Klamm, who were of course on the State Tournament basketball team together! (Got to put that in there you know...) I will get a few fun shots of them tonight and put some up tomorrow.

Shelby was worried she wouldn't be able to compete in the state competition as we head to the cities on the 23rd for the MN Coaches Association all star game that night. We will leave after she gets back from the State choir competition! Two State appearances in one year...who would've thunk it?

Also found out last night that Jared Anselmo will be having a piano recital on Sunday, May 17th at the Edge Center. I'm not sure what time but will post it when I find out. He is a very talented pianist and musician who has studied piano since he was a little boy. He and Shelby have been very close since 4th grade and I've always wished they would perform together one day. They've talked about it for about 5 years but have never actually got around to doing it....here is a picture of the two I took when we were taking a few senior pictures for Jared.

Jared will also be Shelby's prom date this year, as they promised each other 3 years ago they would go to their senior prom together. They will be a striking couple...

My Baby Turned 18...

My little baby turned 18 on Monday, 4/13, and that was sad for me. I can't believe that many years have gone by and she is growing up and will be moving off to college in the Fall. She was born in Buffalo, WY in an April snow blizzard, which is just about like her personality. She came in with a roar and has the personality to match that roar!

I had back labor so it never seemed like labor to me...just a very bad backache. I had stayed with a friend in town because of the storm as Danny was out of town working in Gillette, WY. Went into the hospital around 8am and Danny left Gillette in the storm and got on the freeway right before they closed the roads. He hit a barrier and put a dent in the car....and made it to the hospital around noon. She was born at 4:12 pm, 7 lbs. 8 oz and 21 1/2" long. She was named after the Julia Roberts' character on Steel Magnolias. She didn't have much hair and it took her quite a while to finally get some too!

My pregnancy was easy with no complications and she was a happy baby that was very healthy and hardly ever cried....

So our little girl ended up being 5' 5 1/2" tall and weighs around 120 lbs at age 18.

Just thought I'd share a few baby pictures of her and a couple of her senior pictures as I've been going through a ton of them for graduation stuff. The picture of her with her first Easter basket and bunny is appropriate as Easter was one day before her birthday this year!

A New Era of Girls Basketball at BHS

I say a new era, but that probably is just my thinking as Shelby is done at BHS with basketball! What I mean is there are two groups of younger girls that will now be playing in several spring and summer tournaments...YEA!!!! I was happy to hear that other parents are stepping up and taking initiative in organizing the 8th grade girls and will be taking them on many tournaments this summer, some that are MYAS or AAU! That's a good thing...

I believe they are also playing this coming Saturday, April 18th at a Pacesetters tournament in Virginia. I may just have to go to that one....

Megan Powell is in track and Adrianna is doing track for the first time this year in shot put and discus. I told her mom years ago she should be throwing in track! I think she is going to do great and now Megan has someone to hang with at the track meets. I wish them both well and will try to go to a meet and take a few pictures. I think I will wait until it warms up though and we have a nice sunny, WARM day! I will definately post some pictures of the two girls.

Annalise ALWAYS enjoys her free time....Shelby finally has some time to relax before her last All Star game in Minneapolis and is catching up with some of her friends from Blackduck...

Off to work on scanning pictures for her senior class slideshow...

Priceline.com is Great!

Went on Priceline.com to find rooms for the MN Coaches All Star games in Minneapolis and found a three star hotel in Bloomington for $40 per night...and that includes taxes! I haven't used Priceline for over a year and am glad I did....I checked what the prices would be if I called on my own and it's $110 per night...unbelievable! So a good day all around....

If any of you have not used Priceline.com use it! It is well worth it....saved us a lot the last two years she played AAU. I would get the Hampton Inn near Bloomington for $40 per night...and they had a nice breakfast and the BEST beds ever! Just have to put the area in (or a couple) near where you need to stay and start with $35 for a bid...you might have to go up to $40, but that is still better than $100 per night!

I can't even believe it...found a dress the first place we went to! She liked the first one, then tried the second and it was gorgeous, then tried a third and she really liked that one alot, so tried the fourth just to see....tried the second one on again and realized it was THE ONE over the third one for sure. Confused yet? And that was just four dresses...not bad. Fits perfect, found shoes and do not even have to have it hemmed....and a garter to match! Still can't even believe it....it is beautiful. She will wear it to two proms so we will get our money's worth (yeah right)...but like I said, it is beautiful and looks beautiful on her. I will post a picture after she wears it the first time....

Also found some items I needed for her graduation party, so the trip to Bemidji was successful!

Starting the Search for the Perfect Prom Dress...

We are running to Bemidji to check out one of the stores there for the "perfect" prom dress. Now I'm sure that will be interesting and expensive! I told her last year that she could pick out a nice one since it's her senior prom and she has worn many of her cousin's dresses in years past. Dang, Seniors are expensive!!! Another check for her cap and gown and senior items tomorrow, reserving her graduation site down payment, graduation invites (that I have yet to work on), Sam's Club last week for the plates, etc., and now the infamous prom dress search.....AND she turns 18 next week! All at once....too much for this mama!

I'll have to post back on how the "search" is going...it would be nice to find one right away and not have to travel very far :)

Border Battle All Star Game

The third All Star game for Shelby this week was the MN vs. WI "Border Battle" All-Star game held at the University of Wisconsin-Superior campus. It was a much publicized event and was the First Annual so there should be many to follow in the coming years. It was very organized and had very nice brochures, nice t-shirts and was held in a very nice facility. The lighting in the gymnasium was not to my liking as the pictures turned out very yellow...that is why I converted them to black and white and also one of the reasons I didn't take very many!

I have to say I was disappointed at how the teams were matched up as the WI team consisted mainly of guards with three very tall posts, 6'7" and two girls that were 6'4". The girls from the MN team were mostly posts so you can imagine how the outcome of that game went! AND the majority of the WI team played together for a few years on an AAU team so they had plays and of course, team chemistry.

As the MN team did have 6'7" Gopher recruit but she was matched up well and when you have pretty much one guard (Shelby) that makes for a slow team and girls that are not used to getting out on defense....WI was able to shoot as many three's as they wanted. They had three guards on the floor at a time and were able to put pressure on our girls that weren't used to having to bring the ball down. There were supposed to be two more guards on the MN team but both had prior commitments and had to back out. I just wish they would have found two more to replace them as there are lots of good guards in Northern MN to choose from.

The final score was 105-61~ Ouch. It was not a fun game for me to watch and I know Shelby was frustrated, even though she did have a fun experience and was glad to have been chosen. Just wish the teams were better matched so the game would have been closer and more fun to watch.

I guess the boys' game went into overtime and the WI team won over the MN team by one point! 103-102. Bet that was a fun one!

Anyway, here are a few pictures. Before the beginning of the game and at the end of the game each team met in the middle to shake hands. How about Shelby grabbing that ball from the 6'7" girl going to D1 Kentucky? She got the jump ball and the possession went to MN! THAT was funny! I also like the one of Shelby in the huddle standing beside 6'7" Dvorak. I was going to get one of them together after the game as they hung out before and caught up with each other as they used to play on the AAU Northern Lights team a couple of years ago. The coach for the MN team was John Bauer from Itasca Community College who will of course be her coach next year at ICC.

Shelby was pretty worn out as she had All Star games Wednesday night in Duluth, Thursday night in Virginia, then a full scrimmage at ICC Friday night and the game in Superior on Saturday and she has been fighting a cold...so she's pretty pooped and ready for a break!

She does have one more All Star game for the Minnesota Coaches Association that will pit 10 girls from Class A, AA, AAA and AAAA against each other in a two game tournament. They also have a Banquet at the Hilton in Minneapolis Friday morning for the four teams and will also announce the Ms. Basketball winner at that time. That will be interesting. I'm pretty sure it will go to Taylor Hill but maybe we will all be in for a surprise? Doubt that.

They will then play at 6:00 and 8:00pm on Friday the 24th (at Macalester college) and then the losers at 1:00 pm and the winners at 3:00 pm on Saturday the 25th at Edina High School. They each wear their respective high school jerseys so that will make for some fun pictures!

Goble Earns Back to Back MVP Award

Shelby played last night in the 2009 Coca Cola "Pride of the Northeast" Girls High School Basketball All-Star Game at Mesabi Range Community College in Virginia. She was on the Red Team which featured Kassy Wenneson of Babbitt, Shelby of Bigfork, Bryn Joki and Jessica Cagle of Grand Rapids, Misa Matetich and Melissa Nyberg of Hibbing, Danika Stelton of International Falls, Kaeley Whiting of Mesabi East, McKenzie Overbye and Vanessa Aultman of Mountain Iron-Buhl, and Jessa Youso of Virginia. Alexis Podpeskar of Virginia was an honorary team member due to an injury at the end of her senior season. They were coached by Dave LaCoe and Beth Joki of Grand Rapids.

The White team had girls from Esko, Hermantown, Proctor, Silver Bay, Wrenshall, Lakeview Christian and Duluth Marshall and were coached by Brooke Chaffee of Two Harbors. She had played in the All Star game when she was a senior in high school and it was the first time an alumni of the game had come back to coach a team.

The Red team defeated the White team by 80-65 and Shelby was awarded MVP honors the second night in a row! We were happy and surprised with the one she won the night before in Duluth so this was unexpected but certainly a nice surprise! She ended up with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and played 21 minutes in the game. There were two 20 minute halves and a shot clock but there was never a shot clock violation last night. I completely forgot it was even running!

All the hard work and dedication over the past few years is definately paying off in full! Congratulations Shelby, we are very proud of you!

All Conference x 5

Last night Coach Powell attended the Northern Lakes All Conference meeting to pick up some serious hardware....The Conference Champion trophy and the girls' first place medals AND all FIVE starters received All Conference awards last night! That is pretty impressive and probably another first in the history of girls basketball at Bigfork High School!

This team has broken lots of records and brought home lots of awards to our little community. Congratulations go to Theresa Stewart #25, Megan Powell #31, Adrianna Ivanovic #24, Annalise Klamm #5 and Shelby Goble #3 for being awarded All Conference last night! We are proud of all of you!

Bigfork Shines at Kernz & Kompany All Star Game

Megan Powell, Adrianna Ivanovic and Shelby Goble played last night along with three MIB Rangers in the Kernz & Kompany All Star Game at Duluth Denfeld last night....their All Area team was ahead of the Duluth Area team at the half by 9 but fell 4 points short in the end with the final score being 67-63. So it was a pretty good game...

Andi was #32, Megan #57 and Shelby #45.

The girls really enjoyed their playing time and visiting time with the Ranger girls and in my opinion, those six were the best players on the floor! I kept wishing the coach would have put all Huskies and all Rangers in, but he had to keep the playing time fair I guess.....that's all you had to do Buffeta and the game was yours! haha

Before the game began, they had a free throw shooting competition and 3 point shooting competition. Shelby was 8/10 for free throws and took third and also took third in the 3 point contest. I can't remember what she had for points in that contest and I believe Jessica Vork of Cloquet won the 3 point contest. Another girl from the Duluth Area team went 10/10 in free throws and took first in that contest.

At the end of the contest the media selected the MVP player of the game and for the first time in the history of their all star games, it went to a player on the losing team, and that was to Bigfork's Shelby Goble! She ended up with 20 points and had three And/1's....I think she had one 3 on the night but made quite a few free throws also. Taking the MVP award was a first in Shelby's basketball career so it was fun for us to see. Her Grandma Max and Dad and I were at the game with her..Adrianna also rode with us as her mom could not get off of work when the game was rescheduled....they were pretty bummed about that. Andi and Megan both had 7 points for the night so the Bigfork girls had 34 points out of the 63...again, pretty impressive!

I thought the Bigfork girls represented their school and team VERY well and it was fun seeing them play together one last time....you could definately see the chemistry when they were in the game together. :)

Here are a few pictures from last night...I did not take many as I just enjoyed the game. I will take quite a few more tonight at the Coca-Cola All Star game in Virginia....that game will take place at 6:00 for the girls and 8:00 for the boys.

The Kernz & Kompany all star game that was scheduled for tonight has been rescheduled due to weather conditions, AGAIN! Old Man Winter is playing games with us this year it seems.

The game will be tomorrow night, same schedule. So the Girls' game will be at 6:00 pm and the Boys' game will follow at 8:00 pm at the Duluth Denfeld High School.

A Cute Story About a Little Lady Huskie Fan

I received an email the other day from a grandmother that her granddaughter, who is in 5th grade, had gone to her Youth Group bowling activity in Grand Rapids last Sunday. Well, it is the same Youth Group (Lord's Army Youth Group) that Shelby goes to and a few of the other Lady Huskies have also been to in the past....

So her grandmother emails her and asks her how bowling went and if she had fun...these are the responses: (sounds better if you actually read them yourself)

ya i didn't get to talk to her and Megan Powell is in it to i think my mom told me but she wasn't there

Of course I emailed back and forth with the grandmother and mother and they said that she was so "star struck" to see Shelby that she was too scared to go talk to her...I told her next time she will have to because Shelby loves kids.

Told Shelby about it and she emailed her right away and of course the little girl emailed her right back and was excited...said she was too shy to talk to her. I took a picture of each starter and a funny team picture to the school and had them all sign the back of their pictures and mailed them to her today...I'm sure she will be surprised and excited when she opens that letter!

Just a cute story that I wanted to share with everyone. It is just amazing how these girls and team have affected so many people! I'm sure that's the story for every team from small towns that get to the State tournament...lots of little girls that want to be just like them.

The girls also got flowers and a note from the local bank at the pep fest before the Section Championship game that said "this is from all of those little girls out there that say to their dad's, "I want to be just like her when I grow up...." makes you want to cry...

I would like to have a few for the slideshow...you could just email me a few of the pictures and of them getting on the charter bus, in the gym, etc. The 6th grade team performing for the girls, the little kids giving them their cards, etc. I can't believe I don't have them! I took some at the banquet and those are gone also.... :(

Goodhue Pictures Are Up on Gallery

I finally had some time to get at least the first game done and it they are on the jgoblephotography.photostockplus.com gallery under 3/18/09 Bigfork v Goodhue.

I put pretty much all of them up even though there are some that are a little too blurry for my liking...I am missing the last half of the game for some reason and the send off. I have no idea what happened to them as I remember looking at the sendoff in the car on the way down. And there were some pictures after the girls won the Goodhue game that I really liked, but they are gone also. I don't know if I deleted them not thinking to make room for the other games or what I did....I'm kind of bummed about it but that's the way it goes I guess....I will post the others when I get them done...

Our Funny Team!!! They Crack Me Up!

I went in yesterday to take a picture of the team to insert into the Fourth Place State Trophy, and of course, we had to do another funny team picture! I always ask if they want to do a funny picture and they jump on it, especially Coach Prato! She was first to speak up!

This picture cracks me up when I look at each individual girl and the coaches...we finally got a laugh out of Coach Powell too!

Still Working on Pictures....And a Few Plans

I had some other pictures I had to proof and order before I can work on the State pictures and have also had to go to town a couple of days. I will hopefully get the first game done and up by tonight. I have to go to the school this afternoon and take a picture of the team with their 4th place trophy to put into the actual trophy...

FYI: For the local Bigfork parents, families and all other interested parties...once I have finished proofing the pictures I have a few ideas that I will be working on. First, I will have 8x10 pictures of the team with their Section 7A trophy (immediately after their win) for sale in the office hopefully next week for $10 each. I am thinking of doing a Story Board and will have one as a sample if anyone would like to order one of those. I will do one with Shelby in mind, but I can put your athlete in the action shot of course instead! You can look through the pictures once they are up on the gallery and choose which pictures you want on the board. This will take a couple of weeks to get done and ordered. These will be $60. I might also work on an 11x14 collage of pictures, that will be on a hard back for setting on an easel, and would be $40. I will post them on the site and take orders.

I am also going to be preparing a DVD slideshow of the girls starting from the very beginning of their journey when they were just little and in Saturday Ball to the State Tournament. This will take me over a month to do and I have talked with Mr. Patrow and we will be showing the slideshow at the Edge Center in early May sometime. I will post the information as soon as I know the date and time. I'm sure it will be over an hour long. I had thought about doing it after the Sports Banquet but we don't want to take away from all of the other sports from the year to just focus on the girls. So we will do it on a separate evening and maybe have refreshments in the Commons and then move to the Edge Center for the showing of the slideshow.

I have thought about doing this slideshow for years in the hopes that they would end up at the State Tournament and since they did....I will work on one. I'm not doing it for sales, but Mr. Patrow said I should have some available for sale, so I will. If you know that you want one, please let me know ahead of time so when I start burning them (they will take forever), I can have enough prepared for that night. They will probably be $25 as they will have a TON of pictures and a lot of hard work in them as I will have to scan all of the older pictures...

All Star Game at Mesabi Range Community College

There will be another All Star Game for area seniors at the Mesabi Range Community College on Thursday, April 2nd. The girls will play at 6:00 pm and will be followed by the boys at 8:00 pm. Mesabi Range Community College is in Virginia, MN.

Shelby will be playing on the Girls White Team along with: Melissa Nyberg, Hibbing, Kassy Wenneson, Babbitt, McKenzie Overbye and Vanessa Aultman of MIB, Danika Stelton, International Falls, Kaeley Whiting of Mesabi East, Brynn Joki and Jessica Cagle of Grand Rapids and Jessa Youso of Virginia. Alexis Podpeskar of Virginia is an honorary member due to an injury. The White team will be coached by Grand Rapids Coach Dave LaCoe.

Adrianna Ivanovic, Megan Powell and Shelby Goble were invited to play in the 2009 Kernz & Kompany All Star Basketball games in Duluth on Tuesday, March 31st at 6:00 pm at the Duluth Denfeld High School. They will be on a team of ten girls from the Iron Range that will play ten girls from the Duluth Area. That should be a fun one....I don't know who the rest of the girls are on their team or the Duluth team for that matter, but will post that information hopefully by tomorrow. They received their letters while they were at the State Tournament so are confirming that they will play tomorrow morning. It should be fun to see our "up north" girls take on the "city girls"!

Klamm-All Tournament, Goble-All State

A couple of big honors for Annalise Klamm and Shelby Goble. Annalise was chosen to the Class A All Tournament team for the State Tournament. This is a big honor as they choose only 10 girls from all the Class A teams that particpated in the tournament. Congratulations Lise! (I will post a picture tomorrow and add it to this post)

As they were leaving the Target Center after Lise received her big award, one of the coaches came up to Greg to let him know that Shelby had made the All State first team! This is an award voted on by the MN Coaches Association and they choose ten girls from each Class, A, AA, AAA and AAAA. There are ten girls for the first team and ten girls that make honorable mention. (They don't have the honorable mention up yet) This is a nice honor as it is voted on by the coaches. She was excited and in shock that she made the list. Congratulations Shelby!

We Are Back AND Exhausted!

We got home from the tournament around 7:00 pm and I had to run to Blackduck to pick up our dogs that were at the kennel....kind of missed them! We have a huge one year old Black Lab that Shelby named Tucker and a 5 month old Australian Sheppard named Allie...I missed her the most.

Anyway, I haven't had time and don't have the energy to download and go through any pictures tonight and it will probably be days before I get them all done.

BUT, the girls had a great first trip to the State Tournament and represented Bigfork High School and their community very well! They gave us a very exciting first game at "The Barn", Williams Arena, at the University of Minnesota. Just seeing them play there brought tears to quite a few Bigforkians....especially the parents.

We were not expected to beat Goodhue and almost didn't, as the girls had their lowest scoring percentage all year long, and were still able to pull off the win. Bigfork's defense kept their top scorer to 4 points and Bigfork also outrebounded them....I think the girls shot around 26% and their average for the year was 48%! So they were way off! Might have been a little nerves going on there? They kicked it into gear though and got the job done, much to the relief of the Bigfork crowd. It was nice to get that game off their back so they could enjoy the whole tournament experience and not have to go home right away.

They played Cedar Mountain-Comfrey in the semi-final game at the Target Center and that game as another great game that went into overtime. I think they were really trying to give us all heart attacks or something! It was another very exciting game and our girls had the game but a few errors down the stretch turned out to be costly and CMC won in overtime by 5 points. Adrianna was hot from the three point line and hit four in this game, while Lise hit two and Megan and Shelby each had one a piece, so a total of 8 three's in that game! They were SO CLOSE to getting in to the Championship Game their first year at State! That would have been something else, but nevertheless, we are SO PROUD of everything they accomplished and at how well they represented Bigfork.

Today they played for third place against the No. 1 ranked Barnum Bombers, who incidentally had a rough semi-final game against Ada-Borup. They lost to Ada by 21 points which was actually a shocker as they did not play like we know them to play. But today, they played well and were ready to win. Our girls had two very physical and mentally tough games that really drained them and they could not get anything going well today at all. They shot only 20% at the free throw line which kind of tells you how the game went....Shelby had a tough game and only ended up with 3 points while Lise, Theresa and Robin had 4, Adrianna had 10 I believe, with three from the three point line and Megan had 5 or 6...I don't have the numbers in front of me, but it was just not a good game, and certainly not what we know our girls are capable of...

We are so proud that they came home with the 4th place trophy, which is pretty good for the SMALLEST team (school enrollment of 78) in the whole tournament! Impressive for a small town with a K-12 school!

I will fill in information in the next few days and go through the pictures and post them on the gallery and on this blog as soon as I have some free time....need to get some rest now!

Taking Off Early

We are leaving for the State Tournament tomorrow at 8:00 am to go to the high school for their big sendoff at 8:45. We will then take our time and head down to Minneapolis and get checked into the hotel and get ready for the Class A Banquet at the Minneapolis Convention Center that evening.

I don't have a laptop so I will check and see if I can post at least results on the hotel computer in the evening. We are planning on watching all four Class A games at The Barn on the University of Minnesota campus Thursday so I won't be able to post until later in the evening.

Rochester Post-Bulletin Sounds Alot Like Mesabi Daily News

All we heard (or read) about in the Mesabi Daily News and also the Hibbing paper was about the Nashwauk-Keewatin Spartans and the MIB Rangers....the Nashwauk-Keewatin Spartans and the MIB Rangers.....blah, blah, blah!

Here is what the Rochester Post-Bulletin says about Goodhue playing Bigfork in the quarterfinals...sounds like they already have them pegged as going on to play in the semi-finals! Keep it coming....it just motivates our girls! And you know what happens then! haha

• Goodhue (17-10) will dig into the Class A state tournament against Bigfork (26-2) in a quarterfinal game at 11 a.m. Thursday at the University of Minnesota's Williams Arena.

Bigfork, out of Section 7A, was ranked No. 9 in the last coaches poll, while Goodhue was not ranked.

This is the second trip to state for Goodhue, and the first since 1996, which was the last year of two-class basketball in Minnesota. It's the first trip to state for Bigfork.

Goodhue shares the same bracket with No. 4 ranked New Life Academy (25-4) and No. 8 Cedar Mountain-Comfrey (27-2), and would face one of those teams in the semifinals at noon Friday at Target Center.

Community Potluck For Our Lady Huskies

Just wanted let the community know that Connie Lovdahl is organizing a community potluck for the Lady Huskies Tuesday night, 3/17/09 starting at 6:30 pm. The girls will be signing t-shirts for the little kids and the dinner will be served at 7:00 pm. There will be a HUGE Good Luck card for everyone to sign when they come in and please feel free to bring your own card or letter of inspiration for the girls.

If you are not able to travel to Minneapolis to attend the State Tournament, this would be your chance to tell them good luck! If anyone would like to help with the pot luck, please call Connie Lovdahl and she let you know what she needs to bring, if anything!

There will also be a send off for the girls at 8:45 am Wednesday morning at the school with a small pepfest also at that time!

Melanie Ivanovic is gathering the younger girls and ANYONE that would like to help make signs for their send off after school on Monday at the school...if you have the time and want to help out, please show up. If you have any paints or brushes that they can use, please bring them along also...Thank you everyone!

QRF Rankings ~ 3/16/09

I believe these are the final QRF Rankings for this season...I'm not sure if they change during the State Tournament or not...so Bigfork moved up to #4 after last night's game which great and shows the other teams that "maybe that little Bigfork team might be someone to look out for!" That is the fun about the State Tournament and our girls are excited to get to play some "new blood"! I copied down to the #35 QRF ranking because that is the team that the girls will be playing in their first game in the state tournament. Their coaches were in attendance at the game last night scouting, which I figured they would be. They were lucky that our game got canceled so they could come and check out the 7A title game.

Three Times A Charm, So Three Pictures to Share

I couldn't help going through a few of the pictures as they were downloading so here are three...one right after they won, Shelby and Megan hugging and one of them with the trophy.

The one of Shelby and Megan hugging tells such a story with the Floodwood player right behind them with the ball hiding her face and a couple on the bench also crying...I feel bad for teams when they lose, but we have been in those same sad shoes two years in a row, and it was Bigfork's time.

I better get to bed as it's 1:30 am....but just wanted to share these three....there are many, many more to come.

Lady Huskies Punch Their Ticket to the Big Dance

The Lady Huskies did it again and played an amazing game for all of us fans...they defeated Floodwood in the Section 7A Championship game and now have their "tickets to the Big Dance", the Minnesota Class A State Tournament! YOU GIRLS ARE JUST AMAZING!

The score at the half was 37-26 and the girls won the game by the same margin, 62-53. Four of the starters were in double digits with Shelby at 19, Adrianna with 16, Annalise with 15, Megan 10 and Theresa with 2. Floodwood actually made a run in the second half to keep us on our toes but in their usual Lady Huskie fashion, they stayed calm and kicked it into gear, with Adrianna and Theresa both playing with four fouls! Did I say amazing?

The crowd that showed up for Bigfork was incredible....seemed like the whole community showed up to support the girls! I have a ton of photos to get through and I walked in the door around 12:10 am so I just wanted to post the score and let everyone know the outcome.

The fire department and ambulance escorted the girls into town from about 5 miles out and it was the cutest thing, as all the younger girls screamed and waited, and screamed some more for their heroes. They took second place today at a tournament in Ely while the 7th grade boys took the Championship at the North Country Classic in Grand Rapids and the 4th grade boys took third! Then to top it all off, our Varsity girls take the Championship as well tonight...what a day for the Bigfork Huskies!

I will post pictures tomorrow, probably late as it is going to take me ALL day to go through them all...have to send some to the Grand Rapids Herald Review and to the Athletic Director for the school site also...AND I have the honor of getting a "Press Pass" for the State Tournament games! Which means I get to be on the floor to take pictures! That is a dream come true for me, so not only did my dream come true for the girls and the Bigfork community, but one of mine as well! They ended their regular season with a record of 26-2 and have made history for the girls basketball program in Bigfork! Congratulations to the coaching staff, Greg, Siri and Rob and to our girls who have made their dream come true!

The girls will play Goodue from Section 1A with a regular season record of 17-10 and are currently #35 in the QRF rankings....Bigfork is #5 in the QRF ranking. I don't know much about them but just by looking at their record and QRF ranking, I think Bigfork has a good shot to advance into the State Tournament. If they were to win their first game, the semi-final would certainly be tougher but I think possible! No one knows much about our team but I'm sure will be talking to other coaches and doing some scouting...we are certainly the underdog but like I said above, our girls are AMAZING and if anyone can do it, they can! They have such a strong will and not to mention the talent, to advance into the tournament.

What a Mess I Am Today!

My mind is going a mile per minute and I just can't seem to get organized! I haven't been able to get on the computer much this morning either and can't get my thoughts together to write much...I'm sure you all can figure out why!

Shelby slept until about 9:00 am then was hungry so I made her a good breakfast. She laid around just a little bit then got showered and ready to go...looked through the closet to find something from her friend Morgan to wear that said Shelby or Goble on it and had to make herself a CD to get her pumped and with some money in hand, she was out the door! Of course, not before her Dad talked to her about a few little things....

I want to thank everyone for posting comments on the blog for the girls. There are about three pages of them so that will be nice for the girls to hear before the game. I have a feeling there will be alot of people there tonight, and Shelby has many family and friends coming so that will be fun. It's hard to visit with anyone though because we get so into the game we can't focus on anything but the game....I go down onto the floor so I can get better pictures and am already worried about being in just the right spot to get the best pictures tonight. I want to get the crowd, the players, the coaches...well, just everything. If it's a close game it will be hard for me to focus on taking pictures, but I will do my best! I want to capture it all....

Soooo...I will be back on very late tonight to post the outcome of the Section 7A Championship game....my prediction tonight? Bigfork over Floodwood by 10+ (have to put that + in there to be safe ya know!)

This is what someone wrote on a forum about the Lady Huskies and tonight's game:

"My prediction for tomorrow is that Bigfork will play their best game in the last couple of weeks and really dominate from start to finish. They have survived the last two games but haven't really played their best ball. Now as they come around that final turn with the finish line in clear sight, they will kick it into another gear and finish the race strong. That is what champions do.

Floodwood has certainly earned my respect, but I think I have been clear from my first post in this forum that Bigfork is the team that should and will represent Section 7A in the state tourney."

Makes me just want to bawl.....they couldn't have said it any better!

I would love to hear from family and friends from all over the country that have been looking at my blog and keeping up with our Lovely Lady Huskies...if you would be so kind as to share (anonymously if you wish) a story of one of the players or send your support and best wishes to the team and coaching staff that would be so wonderful!

I will print them all up and give them to the girls tomorrow before they get on the bus for the big game..we are feeding the girls at 3:30 at the school after their shoot around and also giving them their tournament buckets...it would be the perfect send away for them to see and hear from everyone out there that wants to see them get to the Big Dance.

I have received an email and one post from two different people that went to school with Shelby's Grandpa Rod and his sister, Shelby's great auntie Delores, asking about the girls and wishing them well.

I will print them all up and have the coaching staff read them to the girls during the team dinner or on the bus...whichever they think would be best.

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR BEING SO SUPPORTIVE TO THESE BEAUTIFUL GIRLS...they have worked so hard over the past 8-9 years to get to this pivotal point in their journey. Please share something so that we can pass it along to them on their big day....

QRF Rankings ~ 3/13/09

Bigfork still at #5 closely behind Cedar Mountain/Comfrey while Floodwood stands at #21. I was impressed with Floodwood after watching them take care of MIB....it will be a good game tomorrow but I have every confidence in our Lady Huskies! They had many missed shots that normally go in and when Cook Co. took the outside shot away from Shelby and Adrianna, Megan and Lise stepped up and took over...the way it's been all year long and the reason they have been so successful. The girls have too many weapons and they cannot ALL be stopped...tomorrow night will be fun! And the girls still kept their composure right down to the wire....

Bigfork Wins a Thriller Over Cook Co. 52-50

It was a back and forth game the whole way and every time Bigfork would get up, they would come right back. Their #5 was raining three's....Bigfork missed a ton of shots tonight, buckets that normally go in easily for them. I would venture to guess they missed 15-20 of those....hopefully they got the bugs out tonight and they will go in on Saturday during the Section 7A Championship game!

There were lots and lots of Bigfork fans tonight which was wonderful to see...some that came from Dora Lake that made their first game of the year....bet they will be back on Saturday!

CONGRATULATIONS to Megan Powell for getting her 1,000 rebound tonight! I don't know how many she had tonight total, but knew that she needed 9 to hit 1,000! So now she is a 1,000 point club member AND has 1,000 rebounds and another year yet to go! She also hit the winning basket tonight and made many, many, many Bigfork fans very happy...we were all able to breath again! I thought my husband was going to pass right out....

Now the girls need to get ready for Floodwood who surprised everyone and beat Mountain Iron-Buhl by 13 points, 65-52. Mountain Iron-Buhl got into big foul trouble the first half with their point guard and Aultman both racking up 3 fouls each. Charlotte and Winans had 2 and I think another girl had 2...I bet they had 13 or more in the first half. They covered Charlotte well and it took its toll on her. McKenzie (point guard) came out and drew her fourth foul right away and had to sit, then came out and fouled out on a frustration foul and she was done. I felt bad for her as they were down and that did not help the situation at all as she actually came out and drove the lane two or three times and scored plus got 2-4 free throws. They had a very good year though.

Megan was top scorer tonight also with 17, Shelby with 13, Lise with 12, Andi with 6 (four fouls), Theresa and Robin with two each. Megan and Lise both had two three pointers each tonight.

I will go through pictures in the morning and put some up....once I've recovered!

I can't believe the pictures I have! I've been sorting through many boxes and have found some lost treasures....I will post a few more of the girls when they were young as they make me smile. The days, the sleepovers, the trips, the concerts, the tournaments, eating out, swimming, carnival rides, mudding, campfires, four wheelers and jet skis and anything and everything between...these girls have spent some major time together and it shows on the court. That is why I want to show the pictures....and you can see by a few of them who one of the clowns are although they've all had their moments!

Now to explain the pictures...the first one is one of my favorites of Shelby and Megan and it was at the annual Davidson Reunion in June. Every year most everyone goes mudding in about four or five different vehicles and have a blast. It is of course Shelby's favorite thing about the reunion. And EVERY year one of the vehicles get stuck and they have just as much fun trying to get it unstuck. I think Megan had a good time...

The second picture was just a fun outing at the Pumpkin Patch.

The third picture is one of my favorites of Megan. The girls were playing in the 7th Pacesetter State tournament when Jenna, Rachel and Christi were in 7th grade, Shelby was in 6th, then Megan, Andi and Lise played as 5th graders. It was hot and I think Megan was wore out...would like know what she was thinking...

The fourth picture is just after the same tournament (above) and Shelby wanted to be her silly self and stick her finger up her nose! Now, it's one of my favorites because she is always having fun like that....

The next picture is of Heidi, Shelby and Adrianna on our way back from a Region Pacesetter tournament in Wadena. The girls took third place and coming back we saw this huge field of sunflowers...who can resist stopping to take a picture in those? Heidi hasn't played for the last two years and it's a shame because she was a good ball player and would have been an asset to the team this year.

The next is when all three were in track...the one and only year they were all in track. Megan is the only one that stuck with it every year! Just thought it was a cute picture of them when they were young and still didn't wear makeup yet!

The last picture was of course during deer season and wreath season...the girls had come over for the weekend and I was making wreaths and Shelby's older sister was deer hunting and killed her first doe behind the house by our pond....on the other side of the pond...so the three little girls and me and Desirae had to drag that dang deer all the way to the field by our house as my husband was still out hunting...we were wore out! Shelby has a good handle on those ears!

School Was Closed Today

I forgot to get on early this morning as we did get the automated call from the school at 5:30 am that school was closed for the day. The girls still have practice today though...got to be prepared!

I think we got over a foot at least and it I'm sure it took the plows quite a while this morning to get the roads cleared. It is bright and sunny out right now and the temperature is a balmy 0 degrees! Their is a wind chill but not sure what it is because I haven't checked and I really don't want to go outside if I don't have to today....I should shovel the walkway though...maybe it will warm up a little, pretty please?

The girls are pumped and ready to go...the Huskie Cafe is feeding the girls spaghetti tomorrow after school before they take off to Hibbing....how nice of them! Thank you Mike and Mary! They have been wonderful to our Lady Huskies....

I'm pretty sure the game will be broadcast again by KMFY, 96.9 so don't forget to turn your radio on at 7:30 if you can't make the game!

I forgot I took these one night after a game and I have always loved them! I was taking the couples pictures for Homecoming I believe and had Shelby and Lise and then Christi get together for a fun one. I did the vintage look and loved the way it turned out with their letter jackets on and the basketballs look cool in vintage also.

Rubbing Shoulders with the Big Time

Shelby, Jenna and Nicolle all attended the Elite Guard Camp at the University of Minnesota the summer before Shelby entered 8th grade. The summer just after Whalen graduated. Coach Borten ran the camp and the whole team was there, Janelle McCarville, Kelly Roysland, Shannon Boler and Shannon Schonrock...they were able to take pictures with each girl and I have them all somewhere....you have no idea how many pictures I have! I'm sure you all are getting the idea..

Anyway, I would have taken another one because Shelby's eyes were closed but was too chicken to ask her to retake the picture! I found some more so I'm adding the one of the three girls with McCarville, the one of Shelby and Kelly Roysland and one of Shelby that I really liked on the court at Williams Arena and then one of McCarville messing around on the court at Williams.

Another interesting tidbit...we took the girls to the 7A Section Championship game when they were smaller and it was Barnum against Fosston (don't know how they were in the same section) but anyway, Kelly Roysland was a senior for Fosston and Justine Axtell was a senior for Barnum so it was a good game with Fosston winning. After the game, the girls went down and got their t-shirts and programs signed by both girls...how cute is that?

Two More Young Tournament Champion Pictures

The picture of the girls in the yellow t-shirts was their very first tournament at Kelliher in which they took first place. Greg coached them in this tournament and the Stewart girls played that year and then left for a while and came back two years ago. Shelby and Brittney Stewart are in fourth grade here and Megan, Lise, Robin, Ashley and Teresa Stewart are all in third grade. Adrianna had not yet started playing Saturday ball yet. I have a little bit of video of this tournament and is it ever cute!

The second picture is of the girls taking the Consolation Trophy at the Sweet 16 tournament in Eveleth. It is a 6th grade tournament and Shelby was the only 6th grader on the team...everyone else is in 5th grade. They won their first game, lost the second and won the next three to take the Consolation trophy. They beat the current Virginia team by 25 points in that tournament...those were fun tournaments.

First Big Win at a Summer Pacesetter Tourney

These pictures are from the first summer Pacesetter tournament that the girls played in and they took second place. They lost in the Championship game to a very tough New London-Spicer team. I believe right now that New London-Spicer team is having a great year in Class 2A and are #5 in the QRF rankings for that same class. The one picture of the girls in the water was during a break in the games and it was super hot so we took them to a little park and they waded in the water....as you can see by Shelby's expression, she was really sick of her mom making them pose for pictures!

March Madness in Hibbing

These two pictures are from the March Madness Tournament that is held in Hibbing and coincidently, they just had the same tournament this past weekend and our 6th grade girls took first place!

The only girls still playing on the team now are Shelby, Megan, Annalise and Adrianna and Ashley Kopplemann is still on the team but had knee surgery so is out for her career. She is in the middle of the top row.

The one picture in the huddle is of the girls in the Championship game and of course the picture of them with their medals after they took first place. They beat Wrenshall (of all teams) for the Championship and beat them by 30 points.

Here is a picture of Shelby practicing free throws at her very first Pacesetter Camp at Bigfork during the summer months and then one of her senior year. The other picture is of her learning to dribble the ball at her very first day of Saturday Basketball at Bigfork when she was in fourth grade. We transferred her from Northome to Bigfork that year so it was her first year playing with the Bigfork girls. And of course now, during the Cook game last Saturday.

I'm making a big pot of chili and am going to go through a bunch of old pictures of the girls...I will try and post a few later today. I'm pretty bummed there is no game but glad I didn't have to drive in this awful weather. It is really getting bad out there...I have a feeling school will be closed tomorrow.

Bet this weather has canceled alot of section tournament games so I guess we are all in the same boat or fish house, haha!

Just found out the games have been canceled and will be played this Thursday. Floodwood will play MIB at 6:00 and Bigfork will play Cook Co. at 7:45.

The Championship game will be moved to Saturday but they didn't know the time yet. I will post that as soon as I know something....

School Closings....

Not yet...but I just checked the WDIO site and they only have two schools that have 2 hour delays and they are Blackduck and Northome....Blackduck is 20 minutes from our home and Northome is 15 minutes from our house...nothing from Grand Rapids District yet. We actually live about 31 miles from Bigfork. Bigfork School closes only when Grand Rapids does as we are the same school district, ISD 318.

The weather predictions (warnings) do not look good for tomorrow but we still haven't gotten a call saying school has been closed so we'll see what happens. The school has an automated call system for cancellations, etc. so I'm expecting one around 6:30 in the morning....

Shelby said that the coaches mentioned that if school is canceled the games will be moved to Thursday and Saturday, which is okay with me I guess. I just want them to play in the Hibbing Memorial Arena as the girls play well there. I'm sure some boys' games will have to be moved somewhere else as they have games scheduled there.

Our Bigfork boys had their first tournament game today at Hibbing Memorial and lost to Cook by 2 points...I listened to the last part of the game on the radio and it was a thriller. I wish I could have been there and I feel just awful for the boys. They have not had a very good season but have kept their heads up and played hard all year long. The four seniors should be very proud...Bubba Jacobson, Andrew Francisco, Allen Fransciso and Justin Mann. They are all great young men who have stayed together through a tough year and showed us just what dignity is within a losing season. They will all be successful in life! They have also been wonderful in supporting the girls this year....

They have plenty of good athletes coming up and I predict they are going to have some very successful years in the future. I just might have to follow them along....

The girls have moved up ANOTHER notch to #4! I believe that is the highest they have ever been over the last three years....that is so exciting. I added so many because I wanted to add Cook County and they are at #29, MIB is still at #8 and Floodwood is at #27. Of these 29 teams, the following have lost and are out of the running: #27 Fillmore Central, #18 Wabasso, #16 Southwest MN Christian, and #12 Red Rock Central.
